Student answer (Band 7.0)
Environmental concerns have become increasingly important in recent years, and more people are now choosing eco-friendly ways of travelling. As a result, eco-tourism is becoming a rapidly expanding industry. IN my opinion, this is a highly positive trend because it helps protect the environment while also benefiting local communities and economies.
One major advantage of eco-tourism is that it encourages people to travel without causing unnecessary damage to nature. Traditional tourism can contribute to pollution, excessive waste, deforestation, and the destruction of natural habitats. In contrast, eco-tourists generally choose environmentally responsible activities, such as staying in eco-friendly accommodation, avoiding single-use plastics, using public transportation and respecting wildlife. Consequently, greater awareness of sustainable tourism can help preserve forests, rivers, mountains and endangered species for future generations.
Another important benefit is that eco-tourism can support local people financially. Many rural and natural areas depend on tourism as an important source of income. Eco-tourism creates employment opportunities for local guides, hotel workers, drivers, farmers and small business owners. However, eco-tourism is not completely free from problems. If too many tourists visit environmentally sensitive areas, even responsible tourism can put pressure on natural resources. Therefore, governments and tourism companies should establish strict rules regarding waste management, construction and the number of visitors.
In conclusion, I strongly believe that the growth of eco-tourism is a positive development. Although it needs proper managements, it can reduce environmental damage, create employment and encourage communities to conserve nature. With responsible planning, eco-tourism can contribute to a more sustainable future.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 7.0
The response addresses all parts of the prompt, providing a clear position that the trend is positive while acknowledging potential drawbacks. The ideas are well-developed, particularly the benefits regarding environmental preservation and economic support for local communities. The counter-argument regarding the pressure on natural resources is a good addition that adds depth to the discussion. The response is balanced and maintains a consistent focus on the topic throughout. To reach a higher band, the student could provide more specific, concrete examples of eco-tourism initiatives to further illustrate the points made.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 7.5
The essay is logically organized with a clear introduction, body paragraphs, and a conclusion. Each paragraph has a central theme, and the progression of ideas is smooth. Cohesive devices such as 'In contrast', 'Consequently', and 'However' are used effectively to link sentences and ideas. The paragraphing is appropriate, and the transition between the benefits and the potential problems is handled well. The overall structure is coherent, making the argument easy to follow from start to finish.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.5
The vocabulary is sufficient and appropriate for the task. The student uses topic-specific terms such as 'environmentally responsible', 'sustainable tourism', 'endangered species', and 'waste management' accurately. While the range is adequate, it could be further enhanced by incorporating more sophisticated collocations or less common lexical items to demonstrate a higher level of precision. There are no significant spelling or word-choice errors that impede communication, and the tone remains formal and academic throughout the response.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 7.0
The response displays a good mix of simple and complex sentence structures. The grammar is generally accurate, with most sentences being error-free. There is a minor error in the conclusion ('proper managements' should be 'proper management'), but this does not affect the clarity of the message. The use of punctuation is generally correct, and the sentence variety helps maintain the reader's interest. The control over complex structures is consistent, and the overall grammatical accuracy is high.
