Student answer (Band 6.0)
While concern for the environment grows rapidly as issues such as global warming, deforestation, and droughts arise, people are deciding to become 'eco-tourists' and act more responsibly.
This is causing the eco-tourism industry to expand, which brings both positives and negatives.
The rise of 'eco-tourists' is great for the environment, because it means people are harming their destinations less. By joining activities such as beach cleanups, not only can they take part in preserving nature, but they can also enjoy the beautiful sights afterwards. Additionally, if there are more 'eco-tourists', the possibility of tourist attractions lasting longer, especially those that are related to the environment and nature, will increase.
However, this helpful initiative also has its downfalls. For example, tourism is a major part of the economy in many countries, and the expanding eco-tourism could possibly destroy the already existing companies. While some of the existing tourist attractions may not be ethical or kind to the environment, they are still an important part of people's culture.
In my opinion, the eco-tourism industry is beneficial for both people and the environment, and the trend of becoming an 'eco-tourist' is very positive. This is because traditional tourism affects the environment in a negative way, such as people interfering with wildlife when not allowed, or the over-consumption of a certain plan or animal species.
Therefore, the trend of more people choosing to become 'eco-tourists' to protect the environment is positive because it helps preserve natural habitats and resources, and fosters understanding for tourists.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0
The response addresses the prompt by discussing both the positive and negative aspects of the eco-tourism trend. You clearly state your position in the introduction and maintain it throughout. However, the development of ideas is somewhat limited. For instance, the argument regarding the potential destruction of existing companies is mentioned but not fully explored with specific examples or deeper analysis. To reach a higher band, you should expand on your points with more detailed explanations or concrete illustrations. While the conclusion reinforces your stance, the overall depth of the discussion remains at a functional level rather than a fully developed one.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.5
The essay is logically organized with a clear introduction, body paragraphs, and a conclusion. Each paragraph has a central theme, and you use cohesive devices such as 'Additionally', 'However', and 'Therefore' to link your ideas. The progression of the argument is easy to follow. However, some transitions feel slightly mechanical, and the relationship between sentences could be smoother in places. For example, the jump between the economic impact and the cultural value of traditional tourism in the third paragraph could be better connected to improve the flow of your argument.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.0
You demonstrate an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, using terms like 'eco-tourists', 'deforestation', 'natural habitats', and 'over-consumption' appropriately. There is an attempt to use less common vocabulary, though some choices are slightly repetitive or basic. For instance, the phrase 'great for the environment' is a bit simplistic. To improve, try to incorporate more precise academic collocations and varied synonyms to express your ideas with greater sophistication. Your spelling is accurate throughout, and your word choice does not impede communication.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0
You use a mix of simple and complex sentence structures effectively. Most of your sentences are clear and error-free, which makes the text easy to read. There are some minor grammatical slips, such as 'over-consumption of a certain plan or animal species' (likely meant 'plant'). While you show good control over punctuation and sentence construction, the range of complex structures is somewhat limited. To achieve a higher score, try to incorporate a wider variety of subordinate clauses and more advanced grammatical forms to demonstrate greater flexibility.
