Student answer (Band 6.0)
There seems to be a global acknowledgement of the environment, recently. Concern for the ecosystem is fast developing and a lot of people are opting to be eco-tourists, travelling responsibly and in a environmentally - friendly manner. Consequently, the eco-tourist industry is increasing. This essay will reveal how and why this is a positive trend with apt illustration. However, I am of the view that this development is a good one to a great extent.
First, eco-tourism used to be one of the most neglected human activities. However, it is great to know that people now see the value in it as foreigners are willing to deposit huge amounts of money to experience the feeling of another man's land. This is a positive trend because it is an added avenue to generate income for the community and boost it's economy. For instance if this runs for consecutive two years in a community where there is poor economic growth, it's status quo will skyrocket by about 60% leading to a better economic capac
Moreover, eco-tourism helps to promote intra-cultural connections. This happens when people from different backgrounds mix the indigenes of the land in the process of touring. Elements of different cultures are learnt and adapted such as language, greetings, food and this expands the vocabulary of the original environment where the tour takes place. Given this, it can be said that eco-tourism is an advantage and a highly positive trend.
In conclusion, the act of touring different environments is a good development and should be encouraged. It is beneficial to both the ecosystem being toured and the individuals who travel to other environments as this boosts the economic status of a community and enables inter-cultural relationship between individuals. Therefore, I am of the opinion that eco-tourism is a highly positive occurrence that is beneficial to a large extent.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0
The response addresses the prompt by discussing the positive aspects of eco-tourism, specifically economic benefits and cultural exchange. However, the development of ideas is somewhat superficial. For instance, the claim that a community's status quo will 'skyrocket by about 60%' is an unsupported and unrealistic statistic that lacks logical grounding. Furthermore, the essay ends abruptly with 'better economic capac', suggesting an incomplete thought. While the position is clear throughout, the supporting arguments would benefit from more realistic examples and deeper analysis to move beyond a Band 6 level. The response covers all parts of the task, but the depth of development is inconsistent.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.5
The essay is logically organized with a clear introduction, body paragraphs, and a conclusion. Paragraphing is used appropriately to separate distinct ideas. Cohesive devices such as 'First', 'Moreover', 'Consequently', and 'In conclusion' are used to guide the reader. However, some transitions feel slightly mechanical, and there are instances where the flow is interrupted by awkward phrasing, such as 'mix the indigenes of the land'. Despite these minor issues, the progression of ideas is generally clear, and the overall structure is coherent enough to follow the writer's argument without difficulty.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.0
The range of vocabulary is adequate for the task, with attempts at topic-specific language like 'eco-tourists', 'ecosystem', and 'intra-cultural connections'. However, there are some inaccuracies in word choice and collocation. For example, 'deposit huge amounts of money' is not the standard collocation for tourism spending, and 'skyrocket' is slightly informal for an academic essay. Additionally, the phrase 'another man's land' is imprecise. While the vocabulary is sufficient to convey the intended meaning, it lacks the precision and sophistication required for a higher band score.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0
The essay uses a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. There are several grammatical errors, such as 'mix the indigenes' (should be 'mix with'), 'it's status quo' (confusing possessive 'its' with contraction 'it is'), and 'consecutive two years' (should be 'two consecutive years'). Punctuation is also inconsistent, particularly with the spacing around hyphens and the incomplete sentence at the end of the second paragraph. While these errors do not significantly impede communication, they occur frequently enough to prevent the essay from reaching the Band 7 level, where a higher frequency of error-free sentences is expected.
