Give reasons for your answer and include any relevant examples from your own knowledge or experience.

Student answer (Band 5.5)

Nowadays, eco-tourism is growing rapidly and many people tend to travel in this way. Although some people believe that this is not a good thing. I totally think it is a positive development.

The first reason why the growth of the eco-tourism industry is a positive trend is that more population of a society can travel. There are always people who barely take a trip because of their poor financial status. through these economical travelling ways people who are interested can have more of such experiences.

Additionally, the eco-tourism industry will lead to the development of many rural areas. In other words the majority of eco-tourist travel are held in the countrysides which are quiet and flourishing. Thus different jobs would be made for locals to satisfy travellers needs.

Some argue that the expansion of the eco-tourism industry is a negative trend. They refer that the rapid increase in the population of travellers who set up camps in nature will damage animals inhabibat as many people or travelling agencies are careless about protecting nature. However, I believe those who choose to spend time in such environmentally are aware of their value and importance of their protection.

In conclusion, I believe the growing trend of eco-tourism industry is a good development as more number of people can travel and also because it boosts rural areas economy by making jobs.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.0

The response addresses the prompt by taking a clear position, but it fails to meet the minimum word count requirement of 250 words, reaching only 228 words. This significantly impacts the development of ideas. While the main points regarding accessibility and rural economic development are relevant, they are under-developed and lack sufficient supporting examples or depth. The counter-argument is mentioned but remains superficial. To improve, you must expand your arguments with more specific details, real-world examples, or logical consequences to ensure the response is fully developed and meets the length requirement.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.5

The essay is organized into logical paragraphs, each with a clear focus. Cohesive devices such as 'The first reason', 'Additionally', and 'In conclusion' are used to signal the progression of ideas. However, the flow within paragraphs is sometimes mechanical, and the use of referencing is occasionally imprecise, such as in the sentence 'They refer that the rapid increase...'. While the overall structure is coherent, the limited length prevents a more sophisticated use of cohesive devices and paragraph transitions. Improving the variety of linking words and ensuring smoother transitions between sentences would enhance the overall flow.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.5

The vocabulary is generally adequate for the task but lacks the range and precision required for higher bands. You use some relevant terms like 'eco-tourism industry' and 'environmentally-friendly', but there are noticeable errors in word choice and collocation, such as 'more population of a society' instead of 'a larger segment of society' and 'animals inhabibat' (spelling error). The repetition of basic words like 'good' and 'travel' limits the lexical variety. To achieve a higher score, focus on using more precise academic collocations and synonyms to express your ideas more effectively.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5

The essay uses a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. However, there are frequent grammatical errors that occasionally impede clarity, such as 'through these economical travelling ways' (incorrect preposition/adjective usage) and 'more number of people' (incorrect quantifier usage). Punctuation is generally functional, but there are issues with sentence fragments and awkward phrasing, such as 'Although some people believe that this is not a good thing.' (a dependent clause standing alone). Increasing the variety of complex structures while ensuring accuracy in subject-verb agreement and prepositional usage is essential for improvement.
