Student answer (Band 5.5)

There is a rapid rise in pollution in our environment due to various reasons, such as pollutants from cars and industries contaminate air and water, disposal of waste materials in soil and noise from traffic is also bad for environment. Due to this, people are concerned and has starting to take responsibility for ecosystem. Many individuals are choosing to be eco-tourists and try to travel in responsible and eco friendly ways.

In my opinion, it is a positive aspect and this trend should continue in future because we live in this environment and it is our responsibility to keep our surrounding safe. Eco tourism industry is expanding because people who wants to contribute to the safety of the environment try to travel through bicycles and electric vehicles, and choose areas like mountains, where you can go hiking, walk or horse riding. This kind of travelling keeps the environment fresh which ultimately keeps your mind and body healthy. This kind of traveling not only reduced sulfites in the air but also lowers noise pollution compared to cars.

One of the biggest example of this is that, there are many places in Northern areas of Pakistan where cars are parked in parking lots and people either have to walk or hike to the specific places to enjoy the scenery and those places are full of fresh atmosphere and only sounds of flowing water and stray animals is present which is pleasant to human mind.

To summarize, people have started to take accountability for the ecosystem and are trying their best in their own way to protect the environment and taking measures to travel in responsible way which is good both for human lives and planet we live in.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.5

The response addresses the prompt by taking a clear position that eco-tourism is a positive trend. The ideas are relevant, particularly the discussion on reducing pollution and the example of Northern Pakistan. However, the development is somewhat limited; while the benefits are mentioned, the argument could be strengthened by exploring potential drawbacks or more nuanced impacts of the industry to reach a higher band. The introduction is a bit repetitive regarding the definition of the problem, but the overall task requirements are met.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0

The essay is organized into logical paragraphs, each with a clear focus. There is a progression of ideas from the problem to the benefits and a specific example. Cohesive devices are used, such as 'In my opinion', 'One of the biggest example of this', and 'To summarize', which help guide the reader. However, some transitions are slightly mechanical, and the referencing within sentences could be smoother to improve the flow between ideas.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.5

The vocabulary is generally adequate for the task, allowing the writer to express their opinion clearly. There are some attempts at topic-specific vocabulary like 'eco-tourists', 'pollutants', and 'accountability'. However, there are some inaccuracies in word choice and collocation, such as 'sulfites in the air' (likely referring to sulfur dioxide or general emissions) and 'fresh atmosphere'. The range is sufficient but lacks the precision and sophistication required for higher bands.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5

The essay uses a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. While the meaning is generally clear, there are frequent grammatical errors, such as subject-verb agreement issues ('people who wants', 'people... has starting') and article usage ('the biggest example', 'the environment'). Punctuation is generally functional, but the frequency of these errors prevents the writing from reaching a higher band, as they occasionally distract the reader.
