Student answer (Band 5.5)

Nowadays, protecting the environment is becoming a first important world action. Therefore, more and more people are starting to take this very seriously and already adopting a new lifestyle more suistanable starting by their way to travell. In that thought, a new trend which we called green business especially in eco-tourism are thriving to attract new clients. In my view, it is a good a start to change our used to become more eco-friendly. However, there is some business which are not completely eco-friendly but simply pretend to be one to attract more clients.

In one hand, the climate change, the global warming, and biodiversity loss are no longer a myth, we are already facing it. More and more people are becoming demanding on what they are consumed even the for the suppliers, the client insist that they have an eco-friendly label. So, the industry like the eco-tourism industry seize the opportunity and adopt a new value for their business. For instance, instead of proposing an holiday in five stars hotel, they rather offering the night camping to their client. Nature contact, low footprint carbon by using recyling materials, bio food and forest sightseeing.

In the other hand, there are some company which won't lose clients, trying to cheat on their values. Indeed, they are managed to have an eco-friendly label with certification but all their activities remain highly polluant. For example, they are certified green business, but their practices still the same, fly trip for business meeting, hotel five stars for the CEO, deforastation to import exotic species.

In my opinion, it is a really good initiative for the people and for the entrepreneur. However, the gouvernment should be more implicated in how way the company is really eco-friendly and demanding to them for having annual report to maintening their label or certification.

In conclusion, the eco-tourism industry is a marvellous initiative to change our habit especially on travelling and participating into protecting our environment, wether for the client or the company. However, the company should also providing a true information about their values and stand right for it.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.5

The response addresses the prompt by discussing the positive aspects of eco-tourism while acknowledging the issue of 'greenwashing'. The position is clear throughout. However, the development of ideas is somewhat limited. For instance, the examples provided, such as 'night camping' versus 'five-star hotels', are relevant but could be expanded with more depth regarding the actual environmental impact. The conclusion is a bit repetitive, and the argument regarding government intervention is introduced late in the essay, which limits its development. To reach a higher band, ensure that each supporting point is fully explored with specific consequences or broader implications.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.5

The essay is logically organized into paragraphs, each with a clear focus. The use of cohesive devices such as 'In one hand', 'In the other hand', and 'In conclusion' helps guide the reader, although some of these phrases are slightly non-standard (e.g., 'In one hand' should be 'On the one hand'). Paragraphing is used appropriately to separate the introduction, the two main body points, and the conclusion. However, the flow between sentences is occasionally mechanical, and some transitions feel slightly forced. Improving the variety of linking words and ensuring smoother transitions between sentences would enhance the overall coherence.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.5

The vocabulary is adequate for the task, allowing the student to express their ideas clearly. There are attempts to use topic-specific terminology like 'biodiversity loss', 'eco-friendly label', and 'green business'. However, there are several errors in word choice and spelling, such as 'suistanable' (sustainable), 'travell' (travel), 'polluant' (polluting), and 'gouvernment' (government). Additionally, some phrasing is awkward, such as 'a first important world action' and 'in how way the company is really eco-friendly'. While these errors do not impede communication, they indicate a need for more precise vocabulary and better attention to spelling.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5

The essay uses a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. While the student attempts complex sentences, they are often marred by grammatical errors. Examples include 'there is some business which are not' (subject-verb agreement), 'they rather offering' (incorrect verb form), and 'their practices still the same' (missing verb). Punctuation is generally functional, but there are issues with article usage and prepositional phrases. The frequency of these errors is noticeable, though they rarely prevent the reader from understanding the intended meaning. To improve, the student should focus on subject-verb agreement and the correct use of auxiliary verbs.
