IELTS Writing Task 2 question

Concern for the environment is growing rapidly and more and more people are choosing to be 'eco-tourists' - travelling in responsible, environmentally-friendly ways. As a result, the eco-tourism industry is expanding.

To what extent do you think this is a positive trend?

Give reasons for your answer and include any relevant examples from your own knowledge or experience.

Student answer (Band 6.0)

The global warming and the environmental pollution are widely debated nowadays. Thera is now an increase in awareness among people about these issues. Many people started playing their parts to cope with the problem. Some people are travelling in environmentally-friendly ways to preserve the environment. I think, It is a positive development as it will not only help to save environment but also motivte others to take active part in avoiding pollution.

Many people from all over the world are trying to avoid pollution during their travel. Some individuals have decided not to use aeroplanes for travel, as it cause carbon emissions.Tourists are using vehicles with renewable sources of energy like cycles or electric cars for travel. Use of plastic materials also being avoided by eco-tourists. Waste material disposal is done responsibly to avoid pollution.This also promotes awarness among locals and motivates them to avoid pollution.

On the otherhand, some people think travelling in an environmental freindly way does'not play a significant part to solve the envirinmental issues. They think actions should be taken at national and international levels and strict legislations should be imposed regarding use of fossil fuels. Use of non renewable energy sources should be discouraged. Without the co-operatio of government small acts by eco-tourist will be not helpful.

In conclusion, I beleive current environmental issues need to delt with seriousness at all levels. Government and international organizations should actively participate and promote awareness programs among people. It is a combined responsibility of authorities and people. Trend of eco-tourist is a positive development in this direction because even a small act of preserving environment makes a difference and sets example for others.
