Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.0
The response addresses the prompt by discussing whether the expansion of eco-tourism is a positive trend and attempts to take a clear position, stating it is a positive development. However, the development of ideas is limited and repetitious. The student frequently circles back to the same points—such as stress reduction and fresh air—rather than fully expanding upon diverse facets of the eco-tourism industry, such as economic impacts, conservation efforts, or potential negative consequences like over-tourism. Phrases like 'environment is growing rapidly' and the misuse of the term 'panacea' indicate a misunderstanding of some prompt elements. While the ideas are relevant, they remain underdeveloped, aligning most closely with the Band 5 descriptor for task achievement due to the limited and repetitive nature of the arguments presented.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.0
The essay is divided into an introduction, two body paragraphs, and a conclusion, showing an attempt at paragraphing. However, logical progression is severely disrupted by repetitive ideas and confusing transitions. For instance, the transition 'To embark with' is unnatural, and the phrase 'with its relevant panacea' is misused. Referencing is frequently unclear, with ambiguous pronouns such as 'they' and 'them' making it hard to follow who or what is being referred to. Cohesive devices are often inadequate, inaccurate, or mechanical, such as the repetitive use of 'To explain it,' 'Moreover,' 'In addition,' and 'Furthermore' without establishing clear logical links between sentences. Overall organisation lacks a clear overall progression, which places this aspect of the writing firmly at Band 5.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.0
The vocabulary used is relatively basic and repetitive, relying heavily on words like 'environment,' 'nature,' 'good,' 'stress,' and 'people.' There are noticeable lexical errors and inappropriate word choices, such as 'panacea' (used incorrectly to mean plan or solution), 'greenland area' (instead of green spaces or rural areas), and 'denizend' (a typo for denizens). The student attempts some less common vocabulary, but these attempts are often inaccurate or awkward in collocation, such as 'good source of amenties' and 'nature friendly environment.' While communication is not entirely blocked, the limited range and frequent inaccuracies in word choice and spelling place the lexical resource at a Band 5 level.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 4.5
The student demonstrates a very limited range of sentence structures, relying mostly on simple sentences and faulty attempts at complex ones. Grammatical errors are frequent throughout the response. Examples include subject-verb agreement issues ('environment help', 'nature give', 'fresh air give'), missing prepositions, and tense inconsistencies. There are also numerous punctuation errors and typos, such as 'thier' instead of 'their', 'postive' instead of 'positive', 'individulas' instead of individuals, and 'tress' instead of trees. Sentences such as 'They should not cutting the tress or harm the nature more beacuse good environment give lots of health benefit' exhibit multiple basic grammatical errors that cause difficulty for the reader and reflect a Band 4 to 5 range.
