Student answer (Band 6.0)
in recent years, global enviromental awareness has surged, prompting a significant shift in consumer behavior toward sustainable travel. As a consequence, the ecosystem sector has experienced unprecedented growth. in my opinion , this expension is an overwhelmingly positive development because it fosters enviromental conservations and supports locaal economies , although careful regulation is required to prevent commercial exploitation disguised as sustainability .
the primary benefit of the rise in eco-tourism is the direct funding and awareness it generates for the preservation of fragile eco systems.
unlike the traditional mass tourism, which often result in habitat destruction and polution, eco tourism amphasizes minimal imapct and active coversation, foe instance , entry fees collected from tourists visiting protected marine parks in the galapagos island and directly reinvested into wildlife protection and scientific research. In addition to ecological benefits , thi trends often substantial socio - economic advantages to local and indigenous communities, Traditional torism often channels profits to multinational hotel cahins and foreign tour operators , leaving locals with low paying jobs. In areas like costa rica , entire communities have trnsitioned from agriculture clearing to forest preservation because guarding the jungle has proven more economically viable than destroying it.
However the rapid expansion of this industry does carry certain risks, most notably the phenomenon of "greenwashing".because eco-tourism has become highly lucrative, some conventional travel agencies falsely market their services as enviromentally friendly without implementing actual sustainable practices.
In coclusion the growth of eco tourism is a lagely positve trend that aligns economic incentives with the protection of our planet. While risks like greenwasing and over tourism exist, they can be effectively amanged through robust regulation.Ultimately, transforming travel from an extractive industry into a conservative one is vital for the future of global biodiversity.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.5
The response fully addresses all parts of the task by discussing whether the rise of eco-tourism is a positive trend, while also acknowledging potential drawbacks like greenwashing. The position is clear throughout, introduced in the first paragraph and maintained until the conclusion. Ideas are well-developed and supported with relevant examples, such as marine parks in the Galapagos Islands and the economic transition in Costa Rica. The explanation regarding socio-economic advantages and environmental preservation demonstrates a strong grasp of the topic. The response easily meets the requirements of the prompt with well-reasoned arguments, earning a band score of 7.0 for fully addressing the prompt with a clear, supported position.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0
The text exhibits a clear logical organisation and progression throughout. Information and ideas are structured into distinct paragraphs, including an introduction, body paragraphs addressing benefits and risks, and a conclusion. Cohesive devices such as 'In addition to ecological benefits', 'Unlike the traditional mass tourism', and 'However' are used to connect ideas, though minor mechanical issues with punctuation slightly affect flow. Paragraphing is used appropriately to separate distinct sub-topics. Overall, the essay flows logically from the introduction of the trend to its benefits, risks, and final conclusion, warranting a solid band score of 6.5 for coherence and cohesion.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.5
The student demonstrates an adequate to sufficient range of vocabulary suitable for the task, successfully using less common lexical items such as 'unprecedented growth', 'commercial exploitation', 'lucrative', and 'biodiversity'. However, there are several noticeable spelling and typographical errors throughout the text, including 'enviromental', 'expension', 'locaal', 'ecosystems', 'amphasizes', 'imapct', 'coverisation', 'foe instance', 'cahins', 'trnsitioned', and 'coclusion'. While these errors do not severely impede communication, they prevent the essay from reaching higher band thresholds due to a lack of precise control over lexical spelling and word formation. Therefore, a band score of 6.0 is appropriate.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5
The writer attempts a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, demonstrating a willingness to use subordinate clauses and varied structures (e.g., 'unlike the traditional mass tourism, which often result...'). However, there are frequent grammatical errors and punctuation lapses, particularly incorrect capitalization at the start of sentences, missing spaces after punctuation marks, and subject-verb agreement errors (e.g., 'which often result' instead of 'results'). There are also occasional missing articles and prepositions. While these errors do not impede overall communication, they occur regularly enough to restrict the score to a band 6.0.
