Student answer (Band 6.5)

In recent years, increasing environmental problems have become one of the most concerning issues in many countries. Many people are choosing to be eco-tourists, travellinig in responsible and environmentally-friendly ways. Therefore, the eco-tourism industry is expanding rapidly. In my opinion, this is a positive trend because it is beneficial for environment as well as for a country's economic growth.

To begin with, the eco-tourism industry plays an important role in protecting the environment. This is because traditional tourism often degrades natural resources, while the eco-tourism highly relies on keeping ecosystems intact. For instance, revenue generated from park fees and guided tours that directly use for wildlife conservation. Therefore, the eco-tourism industry contributes to protecting wildlife and their natural habitats. Furthermore, the eco-system industry encourages people to adopt eco-friendly practices in their lives to protect the environment.

Additionally, the eco-tourism industry improves the economy of a country. This is due to the fact that this industry creates jobs for local guides and hospitality staff., which eventually reduces poverty and unemployment. For example, in many countries, the eco-tourism industry offer a wide range of job opportunities to locals; therfore, improves their living standards. Moreover, this industry promotes cultural exchange and collaboration among individuals. People can understand the importance of different languages, religions, wildlife, biodiversity and cultures through eco-tourism industry.

In conclusion, the eco-tourism industry is not only beneficial for the environment but also improves the economy of a nation and promotes cultural understanding. As a result, I beleive that this is a positive development.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.5

The response addresses all parts of the task by discussing the eco-tourism industry and clearly stating a position that it is a positive trend. The writer extends relevant ideas throughout the body paragraphs, supporting them with arguments regarding environmental protection and economic growth. However, there are some minor weaknesses in development, such as the incomplete sentence structure in the example 'revenue generated from park fees and guided tours that directly use for wildlife conservation', which slightly hampers the full realization of the idea. Nevertheless, a clear position is maintained throughout, satisfying the criteria for Band 6.5 to 7.0. Because the arguments are relevant and well-structured, a score of 6.5 is appropriate.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.5

The response has a clear overall arrangement with a logical progression of ideas from environmental benefits to economic and cultural advantages. Paragraphing is used sufficiently and appropriately, with distinct introduction, body, and conclusion sections. Cohesive devices such as 'To begin with', 'Furthermore', 'Additionally', and 'In conclusion' are used to structure the text, though some referencing and mechanical errors exist, such as 'the eco-system industry' (inconsistent referencing of the key term). Paragraph transitions are generally logical, and the flow is easy to follow. This demonstrates clear logical organization, earning a band score of 6.5.

Lexical Resource — Band 6.0

The student uses an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, successfully incorporating less common lexical items such as 'ecosystems intact', 'biodiversity', 'conservation', and 'cultural exchange'. However, there are several word choice and typographical errors, such as 'travellinig', 'directly use for' instead of 'are directly used for', and 'beleive' instead of 'believe'. Some collocations are slightly imprecise, like 'eco-system industry'. Despite these errors, communication is never impeded, and the vocabulary is sufficient to convey the intended meaning, which aligns well with the Band 6 descriptor.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0

The writer attempts a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, demonstrating a reasonable command of grammar. Examples of successful complex structures include 'This is because traditional tourism often degrades natural resources, while the eco-tourism highly relies on keeping ecosystems intact.' However, there are noticeable grammatical inaccuracies, particularly missing auxiliary verbs or incorrect verb forms in relative or dependent clauses, such as 'that directly use for wildlife conservation' and 'the eco-tourism industry offer... therfore, improves'. Punctuation errors, like the stray comma in 'staff., which', also occur. These errors rarely impede communication, placing the response firmly at Band 6.0.
