Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.0

The student addresses the prompt by clearly stating a position that the growth of eco-tourism is a positive development because it protects nature and supports local communities. Main ideas are presented, such as preservation of nature and economic benefits for locals, and supported with examples like solar-powered eco-resorts and job creation. However, the response falls into the penalty zone for length, as it contains only 231 words, failing the 250-word minimum requirement. This shortfall restricts the full development of ideas, leading to a score of 5.0 for task achievement.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.5

The essay is divided into an introduction, two body paragraphs, and a conclusion, demonstrating basic paragraphing. Progression is visible through standard cohesive devices such as 'To begin with', 'Furthurmore', and 'In conclusion'. However, referencing and cohesion are sometimes faulty or mechanical, as seen in the slightly disjointed concluding sentences. Paragraphing is adequate, but overall logical flow is occasionally hindered by abrupt transitions and repetitive structures, aligning the response with band 6.0.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.0

The student demonstrates an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, attempting less common items such as 'eco-tourism', 'preserving', 'overcrowding', and 'economic condition'. However, there are numerous spelling and word-choice errors throughout the text, including 'awarness' (awareness), 'developmemt' (development), 'humanities' (communities/culture), 'restaurent' (restaurants), and 'Newsealand' (New Zealand). While these errors do not completely impede communication, they reflect a limited and somewhat inaccurate lexical control, placing the response at band 5.0.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0

The writer attempts a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, utilizing relative clauses and conditional structures. However, grammatical accuracy is weak, with frequent errors in subject-verb agreement ('eco-tourism play', 'eco-resorts uses', 'process consist'), article usage, and prepositions ('goes to the direct local shops'). Additionally, spelling issues affect sentence clarity. While communication is not entirely impeded, the high frequency of errors across basic and complex structures points firmly to a band 5.0.
