Student answer (Band 5.0)

Eco- tourism is rapidly increasing as a trend as it is very benifecial for the environment we live in. Tourism day by day increases environmental concerns as it speards more amount of pollution and creates trash. This pollution and environmental concerns lead to eco-tourism, where tourists chose being environment friendly. In the geenration of saving environment eco- tourists are contributing towards saving the nature. This is growing towards the positive trend and becoming more followed trend as it is leading towards safeguarding the environment for future generations. Once I was travelling to island of India where I was surprised to see that all the things were used in an biodegradable form. Dishes, cups, spoons, bags, key chains, bottles tables in restaurants etc were made up of biodegradable materials which can be easily decomposed in the soil or can be recycled for other purposes. this seems to the way and an initiative to say no to plastics as it is very much harmful for the mother earth. In my observation I have noticed that in India, there are huge trucks carrying trash including plastics, kitchen waste, household waste but there big pits of trash in the outskirts of the town. Where the materials which are unable to decompose stink the place and spread harmful diseases. Yes, choosing eco- tourism is boon for mother earth rather than spoiling the nature and making life threatening for us and future generations.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.0

The response addresses the prompt by discussing whether eco-tourism is a positive trend, taking a clear positive stance that it is 'a boon for mother earth'. However, the response fails to meet the minimum word count requirement of 250 words, coming in at 236 words, which leads to a necessary penalty under Task Achievement. While the student provides a relevant personal anecdote about visiting an island in India and discusses trash management in the outskirts of towns, the ideas are somewhat repetitive and lack deeper extension. The position is clear throughout, but the lack of sufficient length and somewhat limited development prevent the response from scoring higher than a band 5.0.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.0

The text suffers from poor paragraphing, as it is presented almost as a single, dense block of text, which severely hinders the visual and logical organization of ideas. Although there are some basic cohesive devices used, such as 'Once I was travelling' and 'In my observation', the overall progression lacks clarity due to run-on sentences and a lack of clear separation between the introduction, body examples, and conclusion. Referencing is occasionally unclear, and the mechanical flow between sentences prevents the response from achieving a higher band score.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.0

The student attempts a range of vocabulary relevant to the topic, including terms like 'biodegradable', 'decomposed', and 'safeguarding'. However, there are numerous spelling and word-formation errors throughout the text, such as 'benifecial' instead of beneficial, 'speards' instead of spreads, 'chose' instead of choose, and 'geenration' instead of generation. Furthermore, awkward collocations like 'life threatening for us' limit the precision of the writing. The lexical range is adequate for basic communication, but the high frequency of errors places it firmly in the band 5.0 category.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0

The writing displays a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, but control over grammar and punctuation is weak. There are frequent errors in verb tense, article usage, and sentence structure, such as 'Tourism day by day increases environmental concerns' and 'there big pits of trash in the outskirts'. Run-on sentences are common, such as the lengthy sentence beginning with 'Dishes, cups, spoons...'. While the meaning is generally communicated despite these errors, the high frequency of grammatical inaccuracies and poor punctuation prevent the response from reaching a band 6.0.
