Student answer (Band 6.0)
It's an ongoing discussion about sustaining the environment as much as possible for the betterment of the next generations and to reduce global warming as well. I think it is a positive trend and I am very inclined toward the fact that people are finally understanding the importance of using eco-friendly ways to help the better the environment and travelling can be a very important aspect of it.
Travelling results in a lot of waste generation usually in times of holidays and weekends. I think it's high time we choose to be eco-tourist and be mindful about the ways that could actually sustain the environment. People generate waste on vacations because there are no repercussions to be held against them, forgetting the fact that it is still our planet which is being polluted. People should rely more on public transport to travel from one place to another as it not only saves time but also reduces carbon emission. Travelling in eco-friendly ways can cause less hazards like air and water pollution.
In order for this eco-tourist industry to expand there are certain measures which can be implemented by the government such as car-pooling facilities, mass transit, sustainable accommodation and even metro in every city which can gradually decrease the use of fossil fuels and cause benefit to the environment. Citizens of the country should also be held responsible and should be made aware of the eco-friendly ways to improve their surroundings as well.
I think in progessive time the eco tourism industry can flourish if necessary measures and responsibilties are taken by the government as well as the travellers.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0
The student addresses the prompt by clearly stating a position that the expansion of the eco-tourism industry is a positive trend. Relevant ideas are presented, such as waste reduction, reliance on public transport, and governmental measures like car-pooling facilities and sustainable accommodations. However, some ideas lack deep extension and support. For example, the mention that public transport 'saves time' is debatable and underdeveloped in the context of leisure travel. The response touches upon all parts of the task and maintains a clear position throughout, aligning well with the Band 6.5 to 7.0 descriptors. Because some points remain somewhat general and lack fully articulated examples, it fits comfortably at Band 6.5.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0
The essay displays a coherent overall arrangement with a clear introduction, body paragraphs focusing on different aspects of the topic, and a brief conclusion. Paragraphing is used appropriately to separate ideas about tourist responsibilities and government measures. However, cohesion is occasionally mechanical or repetitive, such as the frequent reliance on 'People' and simple conjunctions to link sentences. Referencing is mostly clear, though transitions between sentences could be smoother to enhance the logical progression. Overall, the organizational structure is sound and easy to follow, supporting a Band 6.0 performance.
Lexical Resource: Band 6.0
The student uses an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, successfully incorporating topic-specific terms such as 'eco-tourists', 'carbon emission', 'sustainable accommodation', and 'fossil fuels'. There are attempts to use less common vocabulary, though some awkward collocations and word choices appear, such as 'cause better the environment' and 'cause less hazards'. Spelling is generally accurate, and vocabulary errors do not impede communication. This demonstrates the characteristics of Band 6, where the lexical resource is adequate to convey meaning despite some inaccuracies in less common phrases.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 6.0
The writer employs a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, demonstrating attempts at subordination and relative clauses (e.g., 'measures which can be implemented by the government such as...'). There are, however, several grammatical errors and awkward phrasings throughout the text, such as missing articles ('in progessive time', 'the eco tourism industry') and minor preposition or collocation slips ('repercussions to be held against them'). Despite these errors, the sentence structures are sufficiently varied, and communication is rarely impeded. This balance of mixed structures and controllable errors aligns well with Band 6.0.
