Student answer (Band 5.0)

More and mre people are choosing to be 'eco-tourists' - travelling in responsible of the concern for the environment is growing rapidly. The travellers are choosing environmentally-friendly ways which results the eco-tourism industry to expand.

Since, the pollution is damaging the environment the apprcach to the eco-tourists is a positive approach because in a long run this will definately helps the environment to recover.

People are getting aware of the environment and as a result the eco-tourism industry is flourishing. For example, using plastic would be cheap but most tourists would throw the plastic on the beach or anywhere where it damages the environment but a tourist who is aware of the environmental damage of the plastic would choose to buy any alternative of the plastic and would throw the garbage in the garbagebins. A eco-tourist traveller would choose to buy from the environmentally-friendly shops. The more they will buy the more the eco-tourism industry would expand.

The positive trend and the knowledge is growing day by day because people are avoiding as much as possible to buy or use of any porduct that damange the environment in the long run. However, awareness of the environment should reach more people.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.0

The response presents a clear position regarding the eco-tourism industry as a positive trend. However, the student fails to meet the minimum word count of 250 words, coming in at only 200 words. This under-length limitation directly impacts task achievement, as the ideas cannot be fully developed or extended to a sufficient degree. While the writer attempts to discuss pollution recovery and consumer choices regarding plastic, the discussion remains somewhat superficial and lacks depth. For instance, the example about throwing plastic on the beach is repetitive and simple. Because the length requirement is not met, the response cannot be awarded a score higher than Band 5.0 for this criterion, as the task is only partially addressed due to insufficient elaboration.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.0

The text is organised into four short paragraphs, which gives it a basic structural framework. However, the progression of ideas is hindered by the brevity of the response and some awkward transitional phrases. Cohesive devices are occasionally used, but they are often mechanical or misused, such as starting a sentence with 'Since, the pollution...' or relying heavily on repetitive referencing ('the plastic... the plastic... the plastic'). Paragraphing is attempted, but the paragraphs are underdeveloped and fail to build a cohesive, logically flowing argument throughout the essay. Referencing is sometimes unclear, and the overall cohesive framework feels somewhat disjointed. This aligns best with the Band 5 descriptors, where organisation is present but overall progression is lacking.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.0

The student demonstrates a limited but minimally adequate vocabulary for discussing environmental topics. Words and phrases like 'eco-tourists', 'environmentally-friendly', and 'pollution' are relevant to the prompt. However, there are noticeable lexical errors, such as 'apprcach' (approach), spelling mistakes ('porduct', 'damange'), and awkward collocations like 'results the eco-tourism industry to expand' instead of 'results in the expansion of the eco-tourism industry'. The range of vocabulary is narrow, and repetition of basic terms ('plastic', 'environment', 'tourist') restricts the lexical score. These frequent errors and the limited range place the response firmly in the Band 5 category.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

The essay displays a very limited range of grammatical structures. While the writer attempts some complex sentences, such as 'For example, using plastic would be cheap but most tourists would throw...', these attempts are often faulty or excessively convoluted. There are frequent grammatical errors throughout the text, including subject-verb agreement issues, incorrect prepositions ('travelling in responsible of'), and tense inconsistencies ('definately helps'). Punctuation is also problematic in places. These frequent errors cause some difficulty for the reader and demonstrate poor control over complex sentence forms, reflecting the characteristics of Band 5.
