Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.0
The response addresses the prompt by discussing whether the rise of eco-tourism is a positive trend, taking a clear stance that it is beneficial. The writer attempts to develop ideas regarding environmental protection and economic advantages, mentioning waste reduction and local spending. However, the ideas remain somewhat under-developed and limited in depth, often relying on generalized statements rather than fully explained examples. For instance, the mention of generating profit and making oxygen is introduced but not thoroughly explored. This places the response comfortably at Band 5.0, where the task is addressed, but ideas lack the extension and precise support required for higher bands.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.0
The essay is divided into paragraphs, showing an attempt at overall organization with an introduction, body paragraphs, and a conclusion. However, the logical progression is frequently disrupted by awkward phrasing, repetitive connectors, and mechanical cohesive devices like 'Firstly' and 'Moreever'. Referencing is sometimes unclear, and the internal cohesion within paragraphs feels disjointed, as seen in sentences that abruptly shift topics without smooth transitions. Paragraphing is present, but the overall structure lacks the clear logical progression and flexible management of cohesive devices expected at Band 6.0, resulting in a Band 5.0 score.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.0
The vocabulary used is relatively basic and repetitive, with frequent spelling and word-formation errors such as 'informated', 'enviromental', 'Acording', 'intrested', 'rabish', 'spicies', 'corbon di oxide', 'genrate', and 'profitm'. The writer attempts less common vocabulary like 'eco-tourism', 'residents', and 'beneficial', but inaccurate collocations and persistent spelling mistakes constrain the lexical range. These errors occasionally cause strain for the reader, aligning the response with the Band 5 descriptor where the vocabulary is limited and noticeable errors restrict precision.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0
The response demonstrates a limited range of grammatical structures, relying heavily on simple sentences alongside poorly controlled complex attempts. There are frequent grammatical errors throughout the text, including tense issues ('In recent year, many people are...'), incorrect prepositions ('badly effect in enviroment'), and subject-verb agreement problems. Punctuation is also erratic, with misplaced spaces before commas and periods. These frequent errors cause difficulty for the reader at times and prevent the sentence structures from achieving the flexibility and accuracy associated with Band 6.0, making a Band 5.0 score appropriate.
