Student answer (Band 6.0)
These days, due to increasing threats to the environment because of several human activities, people have increased concern for the nature and plenty of them are volunteering to become eco-tourists and I personally believe that the growth of the eco-tourism industry is for the good.
On one hand, every human is unknowingly contributing to the causes of environmental degradation by using private cars, burning conventional fuels for cooking or by buying products whose manufacturing releases hazardous substances. In addition to this, people travel using different kinds of transportation which release high carbon emissions, do not follow enironmental friendly ways and such people are not realising their responsibility. Moreover millions of people travel throughout the world everyday and such trips can altogether lead to many environmental issues.
On the other hand, some people have started to realise and have increased care and worry for our nature, and have taken a step forward to become eco-tourists who believe in travelling in a responsible and eco-friendly manner. With increased threats and knowledge that tourism can make a massive difference since a large population travel everyday, people nowadays carry eco-friendly suitcases, items and also keep a bio-degradable bin bag to not litter the places they visit. For instance, my friend and I recently went on a trip to Goa and we carried our items and garbage responsibly in our bags or in our cab and threw it away in the dustbin once we reached the hotel. Moreover, we also shared cabs instead of going in two different ones to avoid increasing air pollution.
In conclusion, I strongly believe that the expansion of eco-tourism industry is a highly positive trend as it not only create awareness amongst the unaware but also encourages environmentalists and people to save the nature even when on a vacation.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0
The response addresses all parts of the task and presents a clear position throughout, arguing that the growth of eco-tourism is a positive trend. The writer extends relevant ideas, such as acknowledging the baseline environmental impact of travel before discussing how eco-tourism counteracts this through mindful behaviours and personal choices. For instance, the discussion moves logically from the negative impacts of general travel to the positive aspects of eco-tourists carrying bio-degradable bin bags and sharing cabs. While some ideas could be explored with greater depth or academic abstraction—such as looking at macro-economic impacts on local communities rather than just personal anecdotes—the development is nonetheless sufficient to meet the criteria for Band 6.5 to 7.0. Given the clear positioning and relevant support, a band score of 6.5 is well-earned.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0
The essay presents a coherent overall arrangement with a clear introduction and conclusion. The body paragraphs are structured around opposing viewpoints signalled by traditional cohesive markers like 'On one hand' and 'On the other hand'. However, some of the transitional phrases and referencing are occasionally mechanical or repetitive, such as the frequent use of 'and' to string together long, clause-heavy sentences, particularly in the opening sentences of paragraphs. Paragraphing is used appropriately to separate ideas, but the internal cohesion within paragraphs can feel a bit run-on due to an over-reliance on additive conjunctions rather than sophisticated logical signposts. Progression is discernible throughout the piece, earning a solid Band 6.0.
Lexical Resource: Band 6.0
The writer demonstrates an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, successfully incorporating topic-specific terms such as 'environmental degradation', 'carbon emissions', 'bio-degradable', and 'eco-tourism industry'. There are attempts to use less common vocabulary, though this is sometimes accompanied by minor inaccuracies or awkward collocations, such as 'increased care and worry for our nature' instead of 'concern for the natural environment'. Spelling and word choice are generally accurate enough not to impede communication. Minor slips like 'enironmental friendly' (which appears as a typo) show that control over less common phrasing is inconsistent, pointing directly to a Band 6.0 level of lexical resource.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 6.0
The response features a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, though many complex sentences are constructed by stringing multiple clauses together with coordinating conjunctions rather than utilizing subordinate structures effectively. There are noticeable grammatical errors and awkward phrasings, such as 'a large population travel everyday' (plural/singular mismatch) and 'create awareness' instead of 'creates awareness' in the conclusion. Punctuation is also somewhat weak, with very long sentences lacking necessary internal breaks. Despite these errors, meaning is rarely impeded, and the writer demonstrates adequate control over basic structures and attempts at complex ones, justifying a Band 6.0 score.
