Student answer (Band 5.5)

A growing number of people are resorting to eco-friendly approaches towards environment. Therefore, eco-tourism industry have seen substantial growth in recent years. Although it could create initial issues to businesses that run non-ecofriendly. In my opinion, this is definitely a positive trend as it ensures sustainability, promoting animal welfare.

On the one hand, eco-tourism trend might cause harm to some ordinary businesses as it requires changes. Shifting to sustainable approaches need budget which might be difficult for some owner, risking businesses at stake. Subsequently, they might face trouble in looking after their family and earn their livelihood. Besides, a lot of worker work under one industry which is also concerning, sudden shift might create problem to them as well.

On the other hand, it is absolutely a positive news that people are turning to sustainability which is beneficial for the animal. Due to reckless travelling people tend to forget to take care of the environment. As a result, they throw there rubbish here and there making the life difficult for the sea creature. This filth has become the primary contributor behind the dwindling animals in the sea. the For example, plastice bottles are often seen thrown away in the beaches, which tend to get stuck in mouth of the animals who think that those are food. Hence, eco-tourism approaches save those animals from dying. In my opinion, as people has become aware of the sabotage they were doing in the past, it is a worthwhile decision to change the world from harming animals.

In conclusion, although it might cause initial inconveniences to the business owner, I belive this is undoubtedly a positive change towards making sustainable world by saving animals from human created harm

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0

The response addresses all parts of the task by discussing whether the expansion of eco-tourism is a positive trend and providing a clear position throughout. The introduction outlines your view that it is positive, and this is maintained in the body paragraphs. You present reasons and examples, such as the impact of plastic bottles on sea creatures. However, some ideas are slightly under-developed or briefly stated, particularly in the first body paragraph regarding traditional businesses and livelihoods, which lacks specific examples. Furthermore, there is a minor grammatical fragment used as a complete sentence ('the For example, plastice bottles...'). These limitations place your task response within the Band 6.5 to 7.0 range. Overall, your arguments are relevant and support your main position effectively.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.5

The essay has a clear overall progression and follows a standard four-paragraph structure. You use standard cohesive devices to link your ideas, such as 'On the one hand', 'On the other hand', and 'In conclusion'. Paragraphing is used appropriately to separate different perspectives. However, referencing and cohesion are occasionally faulty or mechanical, as seen in the transition 'Therefore, eco-tourism industry have seen...' where referencing to the previous sentence could be smoother. Additionally, some sentences lack cohesive links, resulting in a somewhat abrupt flow between ideas. These features reflect the Band 6.0 descriptors, where logical organisation is present but cohesion is sometimes mechanical.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.5

You demonstrate an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, attempting less common lexical items such as 'sustainability', 'ecofriendly', and 'livelihood'. However, there are noticeable spelling and word choice errors throughout the text, such as 'ecofriendly' instead of 'eco-friendly', 'worker work' instead of 'workers work', 'plastice' instead of 'plastic', and 'there rubbish' instead of 'their rubbish'. Furthermore, phrases like 'businesses that run non-ecofriendly' lack precision. While these lexical errors do not seriously impede communication, they restrict the lexical score to Band 6.0 due to recurring inaccuracies in word formation and spelling.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5

The response contains a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, such as concessive clauses ('Although it could create initial issues...') and relative clauses ('...animals who think that those are food'). However, there are frequent grammatical errors in agreement and tense, such as 'eco-tourism industry have seen' instead of 'has seen', 'Shifting to sustainable approaches need' instead of 'needs', and 'as people has become' instead of 'have become'. Punctuation errors are also present, including a stray fragment 'the For example'. These frequent errors in grammar and mechanics place your writing firmly at Band 6.0.
