Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 4.5

The response addresses the task only minimally and tangentially, which is characteristic of the lower bands. The writer attempts to discuss whether the expansion of the eco-tourism industry is a positive trend, but the ideas presented are extremely limited and under-developed. For example, while the student mentions that tourism helps create employment opportunities and contributes to the national GDP, these points are repetitive and lack proper elaboration or specific supporting examples. Instead of developing a clear, sustained position throughout the essay, the writer relies on copying phrases directly from the prompt ('the environment is growing rapidly and more and more people are choosing to be eco-tourists') and listing places in Nepal like 'pashupatinath temple' and 'Pokhara' without connecting them deeply to the core question of eco-tourism. To move towards a higher level, the writer must fully explore both sides of the argument and provide well-supported, extended ideas rather than superficial assertions.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 4.5

The information and ideas show basic organizational attempts, but there is no clear overall progression across the essay. Although the text is broken into paragraphs, the internal logic within these paragraphs is frequently disrupted. Cohesive devices are used in a mechanical and repetitive manner, such as the excessive use of 'Furthermore', 'In conclusion', and 'also'. Additionally, referencing is often unclear; sentences like 'While, some people claim that it effect in eco-tourism industry' are incomplete and fail to establish a logical contrast. Paragraphing is attempted, but the grouping of ideas lacks a unifying theme, as seen in the third paragraph which abruptly shifts to television and online promotions without clear transitional links. To achieve better cohesion, the writer needs to ensure that each paragraph has a clear central topic and that ideas are linked smoothly using a wider, more accurate variety of cohesive ties.

Lexical Resource: Band 4.5

The vocabulary used is very basic and repetitive, with noticeable errors that strain the reader's understanding. The student relies heavily on simple words and heavily misuses vocabulary terms. For instance, words are incorrectly formed or chosen, such as 'raspidly' instead of rapidly, 'effect' used as a verb instead of 'affect', and 'kiyking' instead of kayaking. Spelling errors are frequent throughout the text, including 'begain', 'Pople', 'intrested', and 'industy'. Furthermore, collocation and word choice are weak, as seen in phrases like 'prome and advertisement different historical and many place'. The range of vocabulary is limited to everyday words, and attempts to use less common items fail due to inaccurate word forms and spelling mistakes. To improve, the writer must expand their lexical repertoire, pay closer attention to word classes (nouns, verbs, adjectives), and practice correct spelling and word forms.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 4.5

The grammatical range is very limited, consisting mostly of simple and heavily flawed sentence structures. There are frequent errors in verb forms, tenses, subject-verb agreement, and articles throughout the text, which can cause difficulty for the reader. For example, the opening sentence 'To begain with the statement, the environment is growing raspidly...' demonstrates poor structural control and preposition misuse. Sentences are often fragmented or grammatically incomplete, such as 'While, some people claim that it effect in eco-tourism industry' and 'Choosing to be eco-tourist-travelling is responsible, environmentally-friendly ways.' Articles and pluralisation are frequently neglected, as seen in 'employment opportunity to the people' and 'many country'. To reach higher bands, the writer must incorporate a wider variety of complex sentence structures and improve basic grammatical accuracy, particularly regarding verb agreement, prepositions, and complete clause formation.
