Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 4.0
The response responds to the task only minimally and remains incomplete. Furthermore, the length requirement of a minimum of 250 words is not met, as the student's response contains only 112 words, which falls significantly short. The writer attempts to address the prompt by expressing a positive view on eco-tourism and mentioning supporting points such as employment and pollution control, but these ideas are severely underdeveloped. The text breaks off mid-sentence in the second paragraph, preventing any full exploration of the topic or a proper conclusion. To improve, the student must write at least 250 words and fully develop each main point with detailed explanations and relevant examples.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 4.5
The text displays basic organisational flaws and lacks clear overall progression. Although there is an attempt to introduce the topic and use basic introductory transition phrases such as 'To begin with', the response is heavily disrupted by the abrupt ending of the second paragraph. Information and ideas are not arranged cohesively across the text as a whole, and referencing is unclear, notably with the dangling phrase 'On which we will argue further.' Paragraphing is initiated, but the second paragraph remains incomplete. To achieve a higher band, the writer must ensure that every paragraph is fully written out and that ideas are linked logically and smoothly throughout a complete essay structure.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.0
The vocabulary used is limited and minimally adequate for conveying basic meaning. The student attempts some less common or topic-related words, such as 'environmental-wellbeing', 'employment', and 'cost efficient', but these contain noticeable word-form and collocation errors, such as 'environmental-wellbeing ways' instead of environmentally friendly methods. There are also spelling mistakes like 'I belive' and 'environmrnt', along with repetitive phrasing. These errors do not completely block communication, but they restrict the precision of the response. To progress, the writer should expand their lexical range, focus on accurate word forms and collocations, and carefully proofread for spelling slips.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0
The response shows a very limited range of sentence structures and contains frequent errors that cause difficulty for the reader. There are issues with subject-verb agreement and basic sentence construction, such as 'people has started' instead of 'people have started' and 'this is a very positive step took' instead of 'taken'. Complex structures are attempted, but they are often faulty, as seen in fragmented or run-on sentences like 'In the 21 st century... on which we will argue further.' Punctuation and article usage are also inconsistent. To improve, the student needs to demonstrate better control over basic grammatical forms, tense consistency, and sentence boundary punctuation.
