Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 3.0
The response addresses the task only partially and falls well short of the minimum word requirement of 250 words, containing only 92 words. While the writer attempts to discuss whether the rise of eco-tourism is a positive trend, the ideas presented remain very limited and under-developed. The position on the topic is barely established due to the extreme brevity of the text, preventing any proper exploration of reasons or relevant examples as requested by the prompt. To improve, the writer must expand the response significantly by providing fully elaborated arguments, supporting examples, and a clear, well-supported position throughout an extended essay format.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 4.0
Information and ideas are not arranged in a sufficiently coherent manner. Although the text is divided into short paragraphs, the overall progression lacks clarity and logical development. Transitions between sentences are abrupt, and cohesive devices are virtually absent, making it difficult for the reader to follow a clear line of thought. For instance, jumping from the opening statement straight into general remarks about the new generation creates a disjointed flow. To achieve a higher standard, the writer needs to ensure ideas are logically sequenced with appropriate cohesive devices used effectively to guide the reader through the argument, alongside more purposeful paragraphing.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.0
The vocabulary used is limited and minimally adequate for the task, with noticeable errors that occasionally cause difficulty for the reader. The writer attempts some topic-related vocabulary such as eco-tourists and environmentally-friendly, but there are multiple word-choice and spelling errors, such as 'environmnent' instead of environment and 'prevously' instead of previously. Collocations and word forms are also sometimes awkward, as seen in phrases like 'increased standard of living style' and 'tourism also effected'. To progress to a higher band, the writer must expand their lexical range, demonstrate more precise control over word choice and spelling, and use less common vocabulary accurately.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 4.5
The writing displays a very limited range of structures, consisting mostly of basic sentences with frequent errors that can cause difficulty for the reader. There are noticeable mistakes in verb tenses, subject-verb agreement, and article usage, such as 'tourism is seen as away' and 'preferences shifts more towards'. Complex sentence structures are largely absent or attempted with frequent errors. Punctuation is also weak in places, with spacing and capitalization issues. To improve this area, the writer needs to incorporate a wider variety of complex grammatical structures while improving accuracy in basic grammar rules, tense consistency, and punctuation.
