Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 4.5
The response addresses the task only partially and fails to meet the minimum length requirement, containing only 202 words instead of the required 250 words. While the writer attempts to discuss whether eco-tourism is a positive trend, the position is not always clear and the ideas remain limited and under-developed. For instance, the mention that 'tourism is increasing on the natural forest and picnic spot' touches on the topic, but the elaboration quickly shifts into unrelated points such as banning human wastage and signal towers. To reach a higher band, the writer must fully develop relevant ideas with extended explanations and concrete examples while meeting the required word count.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.0
There is some basic organisation with paragraph breaks, but the response lacks a clear overall progression. Cohesive devices are often inadequate, inaccurate, or repetitive, which hinders the flow of ideas. For example, sentences are frequently linked with basic connectors like 'therefore' and 'meanwhile' without creating a smooth logical sequence. Referencing is also occasionally unclear, such as the sudden transition from environmental precautions to local economic activities in the third paragraph. To improve cohesion, the writer should use a wider variety of cohesive devices more naturally and ensure that each paragraph transitions logically to the next, maintaining a clear line of argument throughout the essay.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.0
The lexical range is limited and minimally adequate for the task. There are noticeable errors in spelling, word choice, and word formation that can cause some difficulty for the reader. Examples include spelling errors like 'environmeat' and 'polutiuon', and awkward word choices such as 'eco tourist' instead of eco-tourism and 'disposal material' instead of disposable materials. The writer attempts some less common vocabulary, but inaccurate collocations reduce clarity. To achieve a higher score, the writer needs to expand their vocabulary range, pay closer attention to word forms and collocations, and eliminate spelling mistakes.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0
The grammar demonstrates a limited range of sentence structures, and attempts at complex sentences are frequently faulty. There are frequent errors in verb forms, subject-verb agreement, articles, and plurals that can cause difficulty for the reader. For example, sentences such as 'As the environmeat degradation is at its peak in this century therefore humans are adopting...' contain run-on structures and incorrect connector usage. Other errors include 'tourist are highy cautious' and 'maintain the implemention on it'. To move up to the next band, the writer must demonstrate better control over basic and complex sentence forms, reduce the frequency of grammatical errors, and ensure accurate punctuation and subject-verb agreement.
