Student answer (Band 5.5)

Environmental protection is a major concern in today's world, and many are working in improvement of it including tourism. Nowadays major steps are taken towards improving the environment in response to scientific studies which showed major concerns regarding the wildlife, which led to starting Eco-tourism and by its name it states that tourism with keeping environmental friendly conditions and contributing to wildlife.

One of the biggest part of eco-tourism is travelling by foot which keeps a person healthy as well as limiting carbon footprints in the sorroundings. Bicycle has also been a major contributer in eco-friendly tavelling which limits the use of vehicles, improves physical health.

Another major factor in eco-tourism is avoiding cutting down the trees in nature which will increase the rainfall and good weather conditions. One other thing that majority ignores is that keeping a friendly condition/ behaviour when travelling to another city or country avoiding conflicts, raging, maintaining sense of discipline, following the laws of other places.

As much as eco-tourism is good for the environment and a positive initiative it also has some downsides to it for example travelling by foot or bicycle will consume alot of time to reach a destination and tiring an individual to a limit that will keep them in exhausted, moreover when hiking or going for a picnic a person needs to light a fire which will ultimately lead to cutting of nature for this purpose so a better approach is needed.

In my opinion this is an outstanding approach specially for the future as it keeps the wild safe and keeps good conditions for the society and improves health of both human and animals.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.5

You address the question by presenting eco-tourism as a positive trend while acknowledging drawbacks, and your final paragraph makes your overall view clear: it is “an outstanding approach.” The examples of walking, cycling and protecting trees are relevant to environmentally responsible travel. However, the response only partly develops the task: several points are asserted rather than explained, and the discussion of “keeping a friendly condition/behaviour” and following local laws is not clearly connected to environmental benefits. The downside about travel time and fatigue is also brief, while the fire example is not fully explained. To strengthen the response, explain how each example affects the environment and weigh these benefits against the limitations more directly.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.5

The response has a recognisable structure, moving from an introduction to benefits, drawbacks and a concluding opinion. Paragraphing helps separate these stages, and phrases such as “Another major factor” and “As much as” signal shifts between ideas. However, progression within paragraphs is sometimes unclear: the point about respectful behaviour when travelling appears alongside tree protection without a clear link, and the fire example is introduced abruptly. Some linking phrases are repetitive or awkward, so relationships between claims are not always easy to follow. Organise each body paragraph around one main point, then explain it and give a connected example. Clearer transitions and references would make the argument feel more continuous.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.5

You use relevant topic vocabulary, including “carbon footprints,” “wildlife,” “eco-tourism” and “environmentally friendly,” which helps communicate the subject. There are also attempts at more specific expressions such as “cutting down the trees” and “physical health.” However, the range is limited and several word choices or collocations are inaccurate or repetitive, sometimes making meaning less clear. Examples include “working in improvement of it,” “major contributer,” “good weather conditions” and “keeps the wild safe.” Spelling errors such as “sorroundings,” “tavelling” and “alot” also affect accuracy. Build a wider set of natural phrases for describing conservation, emissions and local communities, and check spelling and collocations during revision.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5

You attempt both simple and longer sentence forms, including a sentence beginning “As much as eco-tourism is good…” and a relative clause in “scientific studies which showed…”. This shows some willingness to vary structure. However, errors occur regularly in sentence construction, agreement, articles and punctuation, and some long sentences become difficult to follow. For example, “One of the biggest part” has an agreement error, while “which will keep them in exhausted” is not grammatically formed. The opening sentence also contains an unclear sequence of clauses, and the sentence about bicycles joins ideas without a clear grammatical connection. Aim for shorter, complete sentences first, then add complex clauses with careful checking of agreement and clause boundaries.
