Student answer (Band 6.0)

There has been an ongoing debate about environmental issues, as a vast majority of individuals have shifted their focus towards eco-tourism; which means travelling carefully through environmental-friendly alternatives, and henceforth this type of tourism is boosting. In my opinion, this is a positive development as the people will tend to protect the environment as well as create awareness among other individuals about environmental protection.

Due to increasing concerns about depletion of environment in all digital media platforms, people have become more aware of the factors than can be a major cause for its degradation, and have also been responsible towards its protection. For instance, previously individuals have been seen throwing litter anywhere on their way, and this was significant in areas popular for tourism. However, nowadays this is less seen in public places.

Another important development this has brought about is awareness among general public. People visiting tourist spots also educate others about hygenic practices, and ways to safeguard natural habitat of wildlife, by keeping the area clean and litter-free. Take for example an abondoned area was was explored by some tourists few years back was completely destroyed by throwing their waste here and there, but recently there has been some awareness programs and boards all along the way to restrict tourists on throwing litter, and creating unnnecessary noises.

In conclusion, the eco-tourism has proven to be a healthy solution to environmental pollution, through protection schemes of its wild life as well as awareness programs by the visitors about the importance of safegaurding the natural habitat and wildlife.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0

Your position is clear: you consider the growth of eco-tourism positive because it can encourage environmental protection and raise public awareness. Both reasons are relevant, and you include examples involving littering and efforts to protect wildlife habitats. However, the ideas are not equally developed. The first paragraph mainly contrasts past and present littering without explaining how eco-tourism itself has caused this change. The second example is difficult to follow and does not clearly show what the tourists or awareness programmes achieved. To strengthen the response, explain the link between responsible travel and each benefit, and develop one example with specific, credible details.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.5

The response has a clear overall structure: an introduction states your view, two body paragraphs present reasons, and a conclusion restates your position. Linking phrases such as “For instance,” “Another important development,” and “In conclusion” help guide the reader. This gives the essay a coherent progression, though some connections are not fully clear. In the second body paragraph, the example beginning “Take for example an abandoned area” is hard to follow, and the repeated references to litter and awareness make the progression feel somewhat repetitive. Use clearer topic sentences and make each example’s relationship to its main point explicit. More precise referencing would also help readers follow who is acting and what has changed.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.5

You use a range of topic-related vocabulary, including “eco-tourism,” “degradation,” “natural habitat,” and “environmental protection,” which helps communicate the subject. There are also attempts at more formal phrasing, such as “a positive development.” However, several word choices and collocations are inaccurate or unnatural, including “depletion of environment,” “hygenic practices,” and “restrict tourists on throwing litter.” Spelling errors such as “abondoned,” “unnessessary,” and “safegaurding” also reduce accuracy. Aim for natural, precise combinations rather than adding formal-sounding words: for example, “environmental degradation” and “prevent tourists from littering.” Proofreading spelling and word forms would make your vocabulary more effective.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5

You attempt both simple and complex sentence forms, including clauses introduced by “as” and “which,” and most of your meaning remains understandable. However, some sentence structures are faulty or awkward. The opening sentence uses a semicolon before “which means,” where the clause does not form a suitable independent sentence; the phrase “an abandoned area was was explored” also contains a repeated verb and an unclear clause structure. There are issues with articles and agreement, as in “the eco-tourism has proven” and “factors than can be.” Punctuation around the opening clause is also problematic. Build complex sentences carefully, check subject–verb relationships, and proofread each sentence for missing or repeated words.
