IELTS Writing Task 2 question

Concern for the environment is growing rapidly and more and more people are choosing to be 'eco-tourists' - travelling in responsible, environmentally-friendly ways. As a result, the eco-tourism industry is expanding.

To what extent do you think this is a positive trend?

Give reasons for your answer and include any relevant examples from your own knowledge or experience.

Student answer (Band 5.5)

Today many people are traveling to see the beauty of nature and ecosystem which increases the growth of eco-turist. It is the best way to protect the eco-system from pollution in a friendly way. In my perspective, eco-tourism is a best way to thank our god for this beautiful life so this is a positive trend.

To begin with the advantage of this trend that if people support the beauty of any place the native of this place trys to clean this place and make it representable for the other people which is the best way to protect the area from pollution. As a result, we get an envirnoment which is full of beauty of nature and also able to live. For example, In 2024, lahore was the first polluted city in the world but when in 2025 the scope of tourism insreased it supports pakistani people to make it clean and now pakistan is accounted for 67 country in pollution table.

An other advantage is increase in economy if the tourist came to any country and they spent money their it may support the country economicially. As a result it forces the country to boast up the growth and develpment. For example, the economy of tailand and vaitnam is properly dependent on tourism.

In conclusion, the travel for the fun is a most presentable method to thank to our god and to enjoy the beauty of life. government should support the tourism by giving relief in taxis. In my opinion, people who have enough money to travel internationally the should must go for travel however, if they are not capable to do it so they should travel in their country.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.5

You give a clear overall view that eco-tourism is positive and offer two relevant reasons: protecting destinations and supporting national economies. The examples about Lahore and tourism-dependent countries also show an attempt to support your points. However, the discussion is only partly developed. The claim that increased tourism made Lahore cleaner is not explained or substantiated, and the pollution ranking is difficult to interpret. The economic point is brief and does not explain how tourism benefits local people or how eco-tourism differs from tourism generally. Your conclusion introduces government tax relief and domestic travel without connecting these ideas fully to the main argument. Develop each reason with a clearer explanation and a more credible, specific example.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.5

The response has a recognisable structure, with an introduction, two body paragraphs and a conclusion, and the reader can identify the two main advantages. You also use linking expressions such as “To begin with,” “As a result” and “For example.” However, progression within paragraphs is sometimes unclear: the Lahore example moves from tourism growth to pollution rankings without showing the connection, while the second body paragraph ends after a general claim about Thailand and Vietnam. Some links are mechanical or awkward, and “An other advantage” does not clearly signal how the new point relates to the first. Organise each body paragraph around one claim, explain it, and then give a directly relevant example; make the conclusion summarise rather than introduce new recommendations.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.0

You use some topic-related vocabulary, including “eco-tourism,” “pollution,” “economy,” and “growth and development,” so the main subject is generally understandable. However, the range is limited and several word choices or collocations are inaccurate, sometimes making meaning unclear. For example, “make it representable” does not naturally express keeping a place attractive, and “boast up the growth” is not an appropriate phrase. There are also noticeable spelling errors, including “envirnoment,” “insreased,” “develpment,” and “tailand.” Aim for precise, natural combinations and check spelling carefully. Replacing repeated general words such as “place” and “beauty” with specific terms would also make the argument clearer.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

You attempt both simple and more extended sentences, including a conditional structure in “if people support the beauty of any place…” and a result clause beginning “As a result.” However, complex sentences are often faulty, and frequent errors in agreement, verb forms, articles and sentence construction can make the reader work to understand the meaning. For instance, “the native of this place trys” has agreement and verb-form problems, while “if the tourist came to any country and they spent money their” shifts tense and has unclear pronoun reference. The final sentence also contains an incomplete construction: “if they are not capable to do it so…” Practise building accurate clauses first, then combine them, and check subject–verb agreement, tense consistency and sentence boundaries.
