To what extent do you think this is a positive trend?
Give reasons for your answer and include any relevant examples from your own knowledge or experience.
Student answer (Band 6.5)
In the past few years, more and more people are choosing to travel in eco-friendly ways due to increasing concern of the environment. This results in expand of the eco-tourism industry. I strongly believe that it is a positive trend because it reduces the emission of carbon dioxide and also helps preserve fossil fuels for the future.
The major advantage of the shift of people towards eco-friendly travel is that it reduces the emission of toxic gases, especially carbon dioxide. Many eco-tourists prefer travelling by buses or trains to the destinations that are not faraway, and avoid travelling by aeroplanes, which releases the highest amount of toxic gases into the environment. CO2 is a green house gas and is effective in increasing the global warming. For example, many studies show that travelling in an environment-friendly ways can help reduce the temperature on our planet by reducing the release of toxic gases into the environment.
Another benefit of increased number of eco-tourists is that it can preserve the fossil fuels for upcoming generations. Many people are switching from diesel and petrol vehicles to electric vehicles, which reduces the use of fossil fuels. This is due to the spread of awarness about the environmental problems and people's concern about it. That is why the governments of several countries are supporting organizations to manufacture electric vehicles. For example, many companies have launched an electronic version of their automobiles or entirely switched to electric vehicles. As a result, use of fossil fuel reduces gradually over the period.
In conclusion, people are selecting environment-friendly ways to travel is a positive trend because it helps in reducing CO2 emissions and also protect the natural resources such as fossil fuels.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.5
Your position is clear from the introduction: you consider the growth of eco-tourism positive, and the conclusion restates this view. You address the task with two relevant reasons—lower carbon emissions and conserving fossil fuels—and support them with examples involving public transport and electric vehicles. This gives the response a sound, relevant basis. However, the discussion is not equally developed: the first example relies on the broad claim that eco-friendly travel can reduce global temperatures, while the second focuses largely on vehicle manufacturing rather than explaining how eco-tourism itself conserves resources. To strengthen the response, explain the links between responsible tourism and each benefit more precisely, and develop the examples with specific, credible detail. The position is clear, but some ideas need fuller support.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.5
The essay has a clear overall structure: an introduction states your view, two body paragraphs present separate benefits, and a conclusion summarises the argument. Paragraphing is appropriate, and signposts such as “The major advantage,” “Another benefit,” and “In conclusion” help readers follow the progression. Some connections, however, feel mechanical or unclear. For instance, “This is due to the spread of awareness” follows the point about switching to electric vehicles, but the relationship between awareness and that change could be explained more directly. The examples also sometimes repeat the general point rather than extending it. Use a wider range of linking and referencing, and make each sentence build explicitly on the previous one, so cohesion feels more natural and the argument progresses in greater depth.
Lexical Resource: Band 6.0
You use an adequate range of topic vocabulary, including “eco-tourists,” “carbon dioxide,” “global warming,” “fossil fuels,” and “electric vehicles.” These terms make the subject clear, and attempts at more formal phrasing such as “upcoming generations” show some range. However, several word choices and collocations are inaccurate or awkward, including “concern of the environment,” “increasing the global warming,” and “electronic version of their automobiles.” There is also a spelling error in “awarness,” and “toxic gases” is repeated where more precise terms would improve the discussion. These issues do not prevent understanding, but they limit precision and naturalness. Aim to learn common environmental collocations and check spelling and word forms during revision.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 6.0
You use a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, including relative clauses in “vehicles, which reduces the use of fossil fuels” and a reason clause beginning “because.” Most sentences communicate the intended meaning, and the overall argument remains easy to follow. Some grammatical errors persist, however. The opening phrase “people are selecting environment-friendly ways to travel is a positive trend” lacks a grammatical subject structure; for example, “the fact that people are selecting…” would be clearer. In “which releases the highest amount,” the verb does not agree with the plural noun “aeroplanes,” and “the governments of several countries” uses an unnecessary article. Review clause construction, subject–verb agreement, and article use. Greater accuracy across these structures would make the range you attempt more effective.
