Student answer (Band 5.0)

In this diagram we can see that in 2014 there was historical museum and library that was a key point for most tourists and young chilldrens to help understand culture and old artifacts. In 2020 it was changed with local artists gallery that showcases art and skills of local artists.Empty spaces are filled by plant beds that can showcase a beautiful scenery.Children's playground is also added in 2020 that can help children play and parents can do most of work while their children play.Covering seats are added for people to sit and enjoy their tour.In 2014 where there were one fish restaurant and one bar it was later replaced with multiplt restaurants and bars.Supermarket is also available for shopping for household items. So overall the old townsquare that was vast was replaced by commercial and consfiscated by multiplt brands and bussiness,Meanwhile the only thing to remain same was fountain in the middle.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0

You identify several important changes, including the gallery, playground, covered seating, expanded food businesses and the supermarket, and you correctly note that the fountain remains central. This gives the response relevant coverage of the plans. However, the overview is unclear and partly inaccurate: the square was not “replaced” or “confiscated”; rather, its surrounding buildings and facilities were redeveloped. The response also omits key comparisons, such as the town hall remaining and the administrative buildings being replaced by shops. Some claims about tourists, children’s learning and parents’ work are not shown by the diagram, while the history museum and library are described as if both became the gallery. A more objective overview and clearer reporting of the main spatial changes would make the account more complete.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 4.5

The response moves broadly from cultural facilities to new amenities and then to commercial changes, so a reader can identify several topics. However, it is presented as one continuous paragraph, with no clear separation between an overview and supporting details. Ideas are often joined abruptly: “scenery.Children’s playground” lacks a space, and “Meanwhile” is attached to the preceding sentence without effective punctuation. The repeated use of “also” and the sequence of short statements make the progression feel list-like rather than clearly organised. Group the changes by location or by type, use paragraphing, and connect comparisons explicitly—for example, explain what replaced each former building. This would make the relationships between details easier to follow.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.0

You use some relevant topic vocabulary, including “local artists gallery,” “plant beds,” “children’s playground,” “covered seats,” and “fountain.” These terms help communicate the main subject. However, several word choices are inaccurate or unnatural for describing a map: “confiscated by multiplt brands and bussiness” does not express redevelopment, and “covering seats” is not the appropriate term for the planned facility. Spelling errors such as “chilldrens,” “multiplt,” “consfiscated,” and “bussiness” are noticeable, while “beautiful scenery” and “do most of work” are informal or speculative rather than precise descriptions. Choose neutral map vocabulary and check spelling; this will improve clarity and make the description more suitable for IELTS Academic Task 1.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

The response attempts some longer structures, such as “Children’s playground is also added in 2020 that can help children play,” and uses past and future-related time references. However, control is uneven, and several sentence patterns are incomplete or awkward. For example, “there was historical museum and library” needs articles and a clearer plural construction, while “In 2020 it was changed with local artists gallery” has an unclear subject and an unsuitable passive pattern. The sentence beginning “So overall” also combines several ideas without clear grammatical boundaries. Punctuation and spacing errors further affect readability. Practise accurate article use, plural agreement and sentence boundaries, and use straightforward comparison structures such as “The fish market was replaced by a supermarket.”
