Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0
The response covers the main features of the development plan, identifying key changes such as the supermarket, the gallery, and the removal of the library. However, the report lacks a clear overview of the most significant trends, such as the shift from administrative/public services to commercial facilities. Some information is inaccurate or confusingly presented; for instance, the text states the fish market was converted into a supermarket in 2014, whereas the prompt implies this is a future development. Additionally, the description of the layout is somewhat disjointed, making it difficult for the reader to visualize the spatial changes. To improve, ensure you clearly distinguish between the starting point and the proposed changes, and provide a more cohesive summary of the overall transformation.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0
The response is organized into paragraphs, but the logical progression is weak. The transition between the 2014 state and the 2020 plan is often abrupt, and the use of cohesive devices is mechanical or repetitive. For example, the frequent use of 'In 2020' and 'Furthermore' feels forced rather than flowing naturally. Paragraphing is present, but the internal structure of the paragraphs lacks a clear focus, with sentences jumping between different areas of the map without a logical spatial sequence. Improving the use of referencing (e.g., 'the former,' 'the latter') and spatial markers (e.g., 'to the north of,' 'adjacent to') would significantly enhance the flow and clarity of the report.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.0
The vocabulary is generally adequate to describe the changes, using terms like 'converted,' 'construction,' 'demolished,' and 'administrative.' However, there are several instances of awkward word choice and collocation errors, such as 'building od supermarket' (spelling error) and 'administrative buildings have also replaced by shops' (passive voice error). The range of vocabulary is somewhat limited, relying on basic descriptors. To reach a higher band, you should incorporate more precise terminology related to urban planning, such as 'redeveloped,' 'transformed,' 'replaced by,' or 'converted into,' and ensure that your spelling and word forms are accurate.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0
The response contains a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, but there are frequent grammatical errors that occasionally impede clarity. Issues include missing articles ('the' supermarket, 'a' children's playground), incorrect verb tenses ('is also built' instead of 'will be built'), and subject-verb agreement errors ('administrative buildings have also replaced by shops'). Punctuation is also inconsistent, particularly with the placement of commas and periods. While the meaning is generally understandable, the high frequency of errors in basic structures prevents the response from reaching a higher band. Focusing on consistent tense usage and article placement will help improve your accuracy.
