Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 7.5
You have successfully identified the main features of the development plans and provided a clear comparison between 2014 and 2020. You covered all key areas, including the changes to the fish market, the museum, and the town square itself. The overview is effective in highlighting the main trends, such as the increase in greenery and the shift toward more commercial and recreational facilities. To reach a higher band, ensure you provide more precise details regarding the spatial layout, such as mentioning the specific locations of the new shops or the exact nature of the administrative building's replacement, to ensure the information is fully developed.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 7.5
The response is logically organized, with a clear introduction, an overview, and body paragraphs that group information by theme. You use cohesive devices such as 'Additionally', 'Moreover', and 'Likewise' to link ideas effectively. However, some transitions feel slightly mechanical, and the paragraphing could be improved by ensuring each paragraph focuses on a distinct aspect of the development (e.g., one for the surrounding buildings and one for the square itself). The progression of ideas is generally clear, and the referencing is consistent throughout the text.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.5
You demonstrate an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, using terms like 're-infrastructure', 'accommodate', and 'demolished' appropriately. There are some minor issues with word choice, such as 'The given diagrams represents' (should be 'represent') and 're-infrastructure', which is not standard English. To improve, try to incorporate more precise collocations related to urban planning, such as 'urban renewal', 'pedestrianized areas', or 'redevelopment project'. Your vocabulary is sufficient to convey your meaning clearly, but expanding your range of topic-specific terminology would enhance the sophistication of your writing.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.5
You use a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, which is appropriate for this task. However, there are several grammatical errors, such as subject-verb agreement issues ('diagrams represents') and missing articles ('the fish market will be replaced by a supermarket'). Additionally, there is a redundant 'the' in the phrase 'the on the east side'. While these errors do not impede communication, they occur frequently enough to prevent a higher score. Focusing on proofreading for basic article usage and subject-verb agreement will significantly improve your accuracy.
