Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 8.0
You have successfully identified the main features of the town square in both 2014 and the 2020 plan. The overview is clear and highlights the key trend of modernisation. You have made effective comparisons between the two time periods, such as noting the retention of the town hall and concert hall while detailing the addition of new commercial facilities. The information is well-selected and logically presented, covering all parts of the task. To reach a higher band, ensure that you explicitly mention specific locations or directional changes more precisely to provide a more comprehensive report of the spatial layout.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 8.5
The response is well-organised with a clear logical progression. You have used paragraphing effectively to separate the introduction, the overview, the 2014 description, and the 2020 developments. Cohesive devices such as 'while', 'in addition', and 'overall' are used appropriately to link ideas. The flow of information is smooth, and the referencing is clear throughout the text. The structure is coherent, and the progression from the initial state to the proposed changes is easy to follow for the reader.
Lexical Resource — Band 7.5
You have demonstrated a good range of vocabulary appropriate for a task of this nature, using terms like 'modernisation', 'retained', 'amenities', and 'vibrant'. The word choice is generally precise and contributes to a professional tone. There are no significant spelling errors, and the vocabulary is used naturally. To improve further, you could incorporate more sophisticated collocations or less common lexical items related to urban planning, such as 'pedestrianised zones' or 'architectural features', to demonstrate a wider and more flexible range of vocabulary.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 8.0
Your writing displays a good mix of simple and complex sentence structures. The grammar is generally accurate, and your use of passive voice—such as 'were retained', 'were to be introduced', and 'was expected to be'—is highly appropriate for describing development plans. Punctuation is used correctly, and there are very few grammatical slips. The sentences are clear and easy to read. To achieve a higher score, you could aim to vary your sentence length and structure even more to demonstrate greater flexibility and control over complex grammatical forms.
