Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.5
The response fails to meet the minimum word count requirement of 150 words, which significantly impacts the ability to fully develop the response. While you have identified the main features of the diagram, the analysis is quite brief and lacks the depth required for a higher band. You have successfully highlighted the key changes, such as the replacement of the fish market and the addition of new facilities, but the lack of sufficient detail and the failure to reach the word count limit mean the task is only partially addressed.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.5
The response is organized into short paragraphs, which helps with readability. However, the use of cohesive devices is quite limited and repetitive. You rely heavily on simple directional markers like 'On the north side' and 'On the east side' to link ideas. To improve, try to use a wider range of linking words and phrases to connect your sentences more fluidly, such as 'In contrast,' 'Furthermore,' or 'Regarding the southern area.' The overall progression of ideas is logical, but the mechanical nature of the transitions limits the score.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.0
Your vocabulary is adequate for the task but lacks the range and precision expected at higher levels. You use basic verbs like 'replaced,' 'changed,' and 'added' repeatedly. While these words are accurate in context, they do not demonstrate a sophisticated command of language. To improve, try to incorporate more varied and descriptive vocabulary related to urban development, such as 'demolished,' 'converted,' 'renovated,' or 'integrated.' There are also minor errors in word choice, such as 'small different shops' which sounds unnatural.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0
The response contains a mix of simple and some complex sentence structures, but there are frequent grammatical errors. For example, you missed articles in several places ('town became,' 'fish market was,' 'band stand is'), and there are errors in verb tense and preposition usage, such as 'changed by bars' instead of 'changed into bars.' Additionally, there is a spelling error ('ware' instead of 'were'). To improve, focus on consistent article usage and ensure that your verb tenses are used correctly to describe past and future states.
