IELTS Writing Task 1 question

The diagram below shows a town square and surrounding area in 2014 and the plans for development of the area to be completed by 2020. Summarise the information by selecting and reporting the main features, and make comparisons where relevant.

Student answer (Band 6.0)

The two maps illustrate the structural advancements projected to take place for a town square and the surrounding areas in 2014 and they are predicted to be completed in 2020.

Overall, there are multiple transformations to take place in the inner square around the fountain. Additionally, the administrative building has been planned to be removed along with the library and history museum. However, the layout of the town square is being preserved by keeping it the same.

The bandstand on the right corner of the inner square is going to be replaced with plant beds facing the fountain, on the opposite side the area is going to be flourished by covered seating and and a small children's playground.

In the next 6 years the outer skirts of the town square are set to get quite a few developments. Starting off, the fish market which lies on the top left is believed to be modified into a supermarket. Similarly, a local artists' gallery will be installed in place of the history museum. One major advancement will be the remodeling of the administrative buildings into numerous small shops. The town hall and bar and restaurants will not receive any reallocation of transitions.
