IELTS Writing Task 1 question

The diagram below shows a town square and surrounding area in 2014 and the plans for development of the area to be completed by 2020. Summarise the information by selecting and reporting the main features, and make comparisons where relevant.

Student answer (Band 6.5)

The given floor plan illustrates a town square and it's surrounding area in 2014 and tentative development of the area to be accomplished by the year 2020.

From an overall standpoint, it is readily apparent that 2014 town square has significant vacant space whilist the 2020 plan focuses more on recreational activities and tourist attraction. The fish market is to be developed into a supermarket. A few things which will remain unchanged are the town hall and the fountain.

Furthermore, plant beds are also included in the 2020 plan instead of the bandstand area. History museum and library will be demolished and instead local artist gallery will be built to increase tourist attractions. Bars and restaurants are planned to shifted in inferior part of the town square area.

Children's playground and covered seating will also be added in the vacant space present in 2014 in the middle of the town square.

Overall, the vast majority of changes are directed towards the development and welfare of the town by the year 2020.
