Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0

The response covers the main features of the diagram, identifying the key changes between 2014 and 2020. However, the overview is somewhat simplistic and lacks a clear, analytical summary of the overall trends. While you mention that 'many new buildings were constructed,' you could improve by highlighting the shift from a commercial/civic focus to a more leisure-oriented space. Some details are slightly inaccurate or repetitive, such as stating the library 'disappeared' when the diagram shows it being replaced by shops. To reach a higher band, ensure you group information more logically rather than listing changes sequentially, and provide a more sophisticated synthesis of the data.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0

The essay is organised into paragraphs, which helps the reader follow the structure. However, the use of cohesive devices is somewhat mechanical and repetitive (e.g., 'Further more', 'in 2014', 'in 2020'). The progression of ideas is clear, but the transitions between sentences could be smoother. For instance, the jump from the general overview to specific building changes feels abrupt. Improving the variety of linking words and ensuring that referencing (e.g., 'the former', 'the latter') is used more effectively would enhance the flow of the text.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.5

The vocabulary is generally adequate for the task, but it lacks the precision and range required for a higher band. You rely on basic verbs like 'changed', 'made', and 'replaced'. There are also some awkward collocations, such as 'insilates' (likely a misspelling of 'illustrates') and 'admission building'. To improve, try to use more specific terminology related to urban development, such as 'redeveloped', 'transformed', 'converted', or 'demolished'. The range is sufficient to convey the main points, but the lack of variety in word choice limits the score.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5

The response contains a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, but there are frequent grammatical errors. Issues include subject-verb agreement (e.g., 'fish restaurant and bars... was renovated'), missing articles (e.g., 'in middle area of town'), and awkward phrasing. While these errors do not completely impede communication, they are noticeable throughout the text. To improve, focus on consistent tense usage—since you are describing a plan for the future relative to the past, ensure your verb forms are accurate—and pay closer attention to pluralisation and article usage.
