Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 7.0

You have successfully identified the main features of the town square in both 2014 and 2020. You provided a clear overview and compared the changes effectively, such as the replacement of the industrial building with an art gallery and the addition of new facilities. However, to reach a higher band, ensure you provide a more analytical summary of the overall trends rather than just listing changes. For instance, mentioning the shift from an industrial/administrative focus to a more commercial and leisure-oriented space would strengthen your response. You covered all parts of the prompt well.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.5

Your writing is logically organized, with a clear progression from the 2014 layout to the 2020 developments. You use paragraphing effectively to separate the two time periods. While the flow is generally good, the use of cohesive devices is somewhat basic. You rely heavily on simple sentence starters like 'In 2014' and 'By 2020'. Incorporating a wider variety of linking words and phrases (e.g., 'In contrast to this,' 'Furthermore,' 'Conversely') would help the text flow more naturally and demonstrate a higher level of control over the structure of your response.

Lexical Resource — Band 6.5

You have an adequate range of vocabulary to describe the changes, using terms like 'proposed changes,' 'administrative building,' and 'industrial building' correctly. However, the vocabulary is somewhat repetitive and functional. To improve, try to incorporate more precise collocations and less common lexical items. For example, instead of saying 'several shops and restaurants will be added,' you could use 'a variety of retail and dining outlets are slated for construction.' Your spelling is accurate throughout, and your word choice is appropriate for the task, ensuring clear communication.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 7.0

You demonstrate a good command of grammar, using a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. Your use of the future passive voice ('will be removed,' 'will be replaced') is appropriate for describing future plans. There are very few grammatical errors, and your punctuation is generally correct. To achieve a higher band, try to integrate more sophisticated complex structures, such as relative clauses or participle phrases (e.g., 'The industrial building, which currently occupies the west, is set to be transformed into an art gallery'). Overall, your control is consistent and does not impede meaning.
