IELTS Writing Task 1 question

The diagram below shows a town square and surrounding area in 2014 and the plans for development of the area to be completed by 2020. Summarise the information by selecting and reporting the main features, and make comparisons where relevant.

Student answer (Band 6.5)

The map illustrate how a town square changed between 2014 and 2020.

Overall, the underwent significant redevelopment, with several recreational and commerical facilities being introduced. However, the town hall and fountain are expected to remain unchanged.

Looking first at the northern and western parts of the square, the fish market is planned to be converted into a super-market, while the history museum will become a local artists gallery. The library, meanwhile, is expected to remain in its current location. In addition, plant beds will be introduced in the central area, surrounding the existing fountain.

Turning towards to the eastern and southern sections, the administrative buildings are expected to be replaced by shops, while the fist restaurant and bar will make way for a number of bars and restaurant. several new recreational facilities will also be added, including covered seating and a children's playground. By contrast, the town hall will remain unchanged.
