Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 4.0

The response fails to meet the minimum word count requirement of 150 words, reaching only 88 words. Consequently, the task is only partially addressed. The content is extremely limited; it fails to provide a clear overview or a structured comparison of the changes between 2014 and 2020. The description of the diagram is vague, using phrases like 'some area' and 'some other section' rather than identifying specific features such as the new shops, the fountain, or the pedestrianized areas. The lack of detail and failure to reach the required length significantly impact the ability to provide a comprehensive summary of the information presented in the visual prompt.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 4.0

The response lacks logical organization and progression. There is no paragraph structure, and the ideas are presented in a fragmented, stream-of-consciousness manner. Cohesive devices are almost entirely absent, making the text difficult to follow. The transition between the 2014 description and the 2020 plans is abrupt and unclear. The use of referencing is poor, with ambiguous pronouns like 'their' and 'the' used repeatedly without clear antecedents. Overall, the lack of cohesive structure prevents the reader from understanding the relationship between the different parts of the diagram.

Lexical Resource — Band 4.0

The vocabulary is very basic and repetitive. The student relies on generic terms such as 'section', 'area', and 'thing' (implied by 'the name as well'), which do not demonstrate the range required for an Academic Task 1 response. There is no attempt to use topic-specific vocabulary related to urban planning or map description (e.g., 'renovated', 'constructed', 'pedestrianized', 'layout'). The word choice is imprecise, and the frequent misuse of basic words hinders the clarity of the description. To improve, the student needs to learn descriptive nouns and verbs relevant to visual data interpretation.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 4.0

The grammatical control is weak, with frequent errors that impede communication. The response consists of run-on sentences and fragments, such as 'as i see in 2014 diagram, showing the some area the name as well.' There is a consistent lack of subject-verb agreement and incorrect use of articles and prepositions. Punctuation is largely ignored, and the sentence structure is consistently simple or faulty. The inability to form complete, grammatically correct sentences makes the text difficult to parse. Significant improvement in basic sentence construction and punctuation is required before more complex structures can be attempted.
