Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.0

The response covers the main features of the diagram, but the description is somewhat mechanical and lacks a clear overview. While you identify changes between 2014 and 2020, the summary lacks a cohesive synthesis of the transformation. Some details are slightly inaccurate or confusing, such as the description of the 2020 layout, which makes it difficult for the reader to visualize the changes. To improve, ensure you group information logically—perhaps by area or by the nature of the changes—and provide a clear, concise overview statement that highlights the most significant developments, such as the replacement of the fish market and restaurant with a supermarket and playground.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.0

The essay is organized into two paragraphs, but the progression of ideas is repetitive and lacks variety in cohesive devices. You rely heavily on phrases like 'moving down' and 'moving on', which makes the flow feel mechanical. There is a lack of logical linking between sentences, and the paragraphing could be more effective by separating the 2014 description from the 2020 development more clearly. To improve, use a wider range of linking words (e.g., 'consequently', 'in contrast', 'furthermore') and ensure that each paragraph has a clear focus to guide the reader through the comparison.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.0

The vocabulary is limited and repetitive, with several spelling errors such as 'loctaed', 'hyge', 'palnt', and 'wich'. The range of vocabulary is basic, often relying on simple directional language. To reach a higher band, you need to use more precise terminology to describe urban planning features (e.g., 'redeveloped', 'replaced', 'situated', 'adjacent to'). You should also focus on accurate spelling and using a broader range of descriptive nouns and adjectives to convey the changes more effectively.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0

There are frequent grammatical errors throughout the text, including issues with subject-verb agreement ('the fountain is appeared'), incorrect use of articles, and run-on sentences. The sentence structures are mostly simple, with limited attempts at complex sentences. Punctuation is also inconsistent, particularly with comma usage and capitalization. To improve, focus on mastering basic sentence construction, ensuring correct verb tenses, and proofreading for common errors like 'there' vs 'their'. Increasing the variety of sentence structures will also help improve your score.
