Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 4.0
The response fails to meet the minimum word count requirement of 150 words, which significantly impacts the score. Furthermore, the content is underdeveloped. While you mention some features, you fail to provide a clear overview or a detailed comparison of the changes. The description is essentially a list of items rather than a report on the development. To improve, you must describe the spatial changes (e.g., what replaced what) and group information logically. The lack of detail regarding the layout and the failure to reach the word count means the task is only partially addressed.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.0
The response is very short, consisting of only two brief paragraphs. There is a lack of logical progression or clear structure. While you use 'whereas' and 'to conclude', the overall flow is disjointed. The paragraphing is insufficient, and the connection between the 2014 and 2020 features is mechanical rather than analytical. To improve, you should use a clear introduction, an overview paragraph, and two body paragraphs that group features by theme or location, using a wider range of cohesive devices to link your ideas.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.0
The vocabulary is basic and repetitive. There are several spelling errors, such as 'meuseum', 'adminstrative', 'resturant', and 'liabrary'. The range of vocabulary is limited to simple nouns and basic verbs, which is insufficient for an Academic Task 1 response. To achieve a higher band, you need to use more precise terminology to describe urban development, such as 'demolished', 'constructed', 'transformed', or 'replaced', and ensure that your spelling is accurate throughout the text.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0
The grammatical range is very limited, consisting mostly of simple sentences. There are errors in punctuation, such as the unnecessary space before the comma in 'band stand ,'. The sentence structure is repetitive, relying heavily on 'there is/there are'. To improve, you should incorporate a variety of complex sentence structures, such as passive voice (e.g., 'The fish market was replaced by...') and subordinate clauses to compare the two time periods. Accuracy is generally acceptable for simple structures, but the lack of complexity limits the potential score.
