Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 4.0
The response fails to meet the minimum word count requirement of 150 words, reaching only 112 words. This significantly impacts the task achievement, as the description is incomplete and stops abruptly mid-sentence. While the introduction attempts to outline the maps, the body paragraphs are underdeveloped and fail to provide a comprehensive summary of the 2020 development plans. Key features are mentioned in a fragmented way, and the comparison between the two time periods is not fully realized. To improve, you must ensure you cover all parts of the prompt and provide a complete, balanced analysis of the data provided.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.0
The essay lacks a clear logical progression. While there is an attempt at paragraphing, the abrupt ending and the lack of cohesive devices make the text difficult to follow. Transitions such as 'to begin with' and 'on the other hand' are used, but they do not effectively link the ideas because the content itself is fragmented. The referencing is often unclear, making it difficult for the reader to track the location of the features being described. To improve, focus on using a wider range of linking words and ensure that each paragraph has a clear, unified focus.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.0
The vocabulary is limited and repetitive. There are several instances of awkward phrasing and word choice errors, such as 'proposed changed' instead of 'proposed changes' and 'biggest administrative building' which is grammatically and stylistically weak. The use of 'new investigation' is also incorrect in this context, as the prompt refers to development plans. To achieve a higher score, you should aim to use more precise vocabulary related to describing maps and urban development, such as 'renovated', 'demolished', or 'constructed'.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 4.5
The response contains frequent grammatical errors that impede communication. There are issues with article usage ('on middle fountain', 'on east side'), subject-verb agreement, and sentence structure. Many sentences are fragmented or incomplete, particularly in the second paragraph. The lack of punctuation and capitalization further detracts from the clarity of the writing. To improve, focus on basic sentence construction, ensuring every sentence has a clear subject and verb, and practice proofreading to eliminate simple errors in articles and prepositions.
