IELTS Writing Task 1 question

The diagram below shows a town square and surrounding area in 2014 and the plans for development of the area to be completed by 2020. Summarise the information by selecting and reporting the main features, and make comparisons where relevant.

Student answer (Band 6.0)

The map illustrates information about a town square and it's nearby place in 2014 and the next procedure for modification of the town to be ended in 2020.

Looking from an overall perspective, it is apparent that there were several changes established by the local authorities with the passage of time in town square whereas the fountain remains same at it's position.

In details, in 2014 there was a fish market located in the north-west side of the town square but in 2020 it was replaced by the supermarket and the history museum in west side was replaced with local artist's gallery. However, the library was demolished in 2020 and the fish restaurant and bar at south side were replaced with bars and restaurants.

Nevertheless, fountain at the center of the town square was remain the same while a children's playground and covered seating areas were constructed nearby the fountain in 2020. The bandstand was converted in plant beds whereas townhall was not changed. Interestingly, the administrative buildings were replaced with several shops.
