Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.0

The response identifies the main features of the 2014 and 2020 plans, such as the fountain and the addition of new facilities. However, the description is somewhat superficial and lacks a clear, analytical overview. While the prompt asks for a summary and comparison, the response reads more like a list of items rather than a cohesive report. The comparison between the two time periods is present but lacks detail regarding the spatial layout or the scale of the changes. To improve, you should focus on grouping related features (e.g., leisure vs. commercial) and using more precise language to describe the transformation of the area.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.0

The essay is divided into paragraphs, but the internal structure is weak. The use of cohesive devices is very limited and often mechanical, such as the repetitive use of 'In 2014' and 'In 2020'. There is a lack of logical flow between sentences, and some transitions are abrupt or missing entirely. For example, the transition between the description of the fountain and the surrounding buildings is disjointed. To reach a higher band, you need to use a wider range of linking words and ensure that each paragraph has a clear topic sentence that guides the reader through the information.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.0

The vocabulary is quite basic and repetitive, relying heavily on simple nouns and verbs. There are several spelling errors, such as 'restraunt' and 'aslo', and some awkward phrasing like 'the shop poutside the town'. The range of vocabulary is limited to the items shown in the diagram, with little attempt to use more sophisticated synonyms or descriptive language to characterize the changes (e.g., 'replaced by', 'expanded', 'converted'). To improve, try to incorporate more precise terminology related to urban planning and development, and ensure you proofread for basic spelling and word-choice errors.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0

The response contains frequent grammatical errors that occasionally impede readability. There are issues with sentence structure, such as fragments ('And it is covered by the administrative buildings...') and incorrect article usage ('the a towns'). Subject-verb agreement and punctuation are also inconsistent, particularly with the placement of periods and capitalization. The range of sentence structures is limited, consisting mostly of simple sentences. To improve, focus on mastering basic sentence construction, ensuring that every sentence has a clear subject and verb, and practicing the correct use of articles and prepositions.
