Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.5
The response covers the main features of the maps, such as the conversion of the fish market and the administration area, and the addition of new features like the plant bed and seating. However, the description is somewhat repetitive and lacks a clear, analytical overview. The attempt to compare the two years is present, but the language used to describe the changes is often imprecise (e.g., 'feature changed'). To improve, ensure you clearly group information logically rather than listing features in a way that feels disjointed. The summary would benefit from a more professional tone, avoiding subjective commentary like 'made the building more charming and attractive,' which is not objective reporting.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.0
The response is organized into a single paragraph, which hinders the logical flow of the report. IELTS Task 1 responses should ideally be structured into an introduction, an overview, and two body paragraphs to clearly separate different aspects of the development. While some cohesive devices are used, such as 'Moreover' and 'When we come to,' they are often used mechanically or incorrectly. The referencing is sometimes unclear, making it difficult for the reader to follow the spatial relationships between the 2014 and 2020 layouts. Improving paragraphing and using a wider range of linking words would significantly enhance the clarity of your writing.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.5
The vocabulary is somewhat limited and repetitive. Phrases like 'the building' are used frequently where more specific terms (e.g., 'the town square,' 'the facility,' 'the site') would be more appropriate. There are also issues with word choice and collocation, such as 'administrating area' instead of 'administrative area' and 'plant bed which was not exist' instead of 'which did not exist.' To achieve a higher band, focus on using more precise terminology related to maps and urban development, and avoid informal or subjective language like 'charming' or 'comfortable environment,' which are not suitable for an Academic Task 1 report.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0
The response contains a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, but there are frequent grammatical errors that occasionally impede clarity. Examples include 'the mid of building was different,' 'fish market area was located in 2014 later,' and 'that new feature made comfortable environment.' There are also issues with article usage ('the mid of the building') and verb tense consistency. While the meaning is generally understandable, the high frequency of errors in basic grammar and sentence construction prevents the response from reaching a higher band. Focusing on subject-verb agreement and correct preposition usage will help improve your accuracy.
