Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.5
The response identifies the main features of the development plan, such as the increase in shops and the addition of greenery. However, the description is somewhat inaccurate regarding the source material; for instance, the text mentions 'selling fish varieties' and 'museums,' which are not clearly supported by the provided diagram. The overview is present but lacks a clear, concise summary of the most significant changes. To improve, focus on objectively reporting the visual data rather than speculating on the function of buildings not explicitly labeled in the diagram.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.5
The response is organized into paragraphs, but the flow between ideas is somewhat mechanical. The use of cohesive devices is limited, and some transitions feel abrupt. For example, the shift from discussing the town hall to the surrounding area lacks a smooth logical progression. The paragraphing is also insufficient, as the entire body of the report is essentially one long paragraph. Improving the use of linking words (e.g., 'furthermore,' 'in contrast,' 'consequently') would help guide the reader through the comparison of the two time periods more effectively.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.5
The vocabulary is adequate for the task but lacks precision and variety. There are several spelling errors (e.g., 'sqaure,' 'aea,' 'restuarants') and some awkward phrasing, such as 'public relaxment areas' and 'local friendly.' While the student attempts to use descriptive language, the word choices are often imprecise. To reach a higher band, the student should focus on using more academic collocations and ensuring accurate spelling of common terms related to urban planning and development.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5
The response contains a mix of simple and complex structures, but there are frequent errors in grammar and punctuation that occasionally impede readability. Issues include missing articles (e.g., 'making the aea'), incorrect verb forms ('decorating by ornamental plants'), and run-on sentences. Punctuation is also inconsistent, with a comma used incorrectly at the end of the final sentence. While the meaning is generally clear, the frequency of these errors prevents the response from reaching a higher band. Focusing on subject-verb agreement and article usage would be beneficial.
