The diagram below shows a town square and surrounding area in 2014 and the plans for development of the area to be completed by 2020. Summarise the information by selecting and reporting the main features, and make comparisons where relevant.

The two maps depict the transformations in a town square and its adjacent surrounding area between 2014 and the proposed changes for 2020.

Overall, the area undergoes significant modernization and commercialization over the six-year period. The central open town square is redesigned with additional amenities, while several surrounding existing structures are replaced or repurposed to accommodate new commercial and residential developments.

In 2014, the central town square featured a simple fountain in the middle, surrounded by open green spaces and trees. By 2020, the original fountain is replaced with a smaller water feature, while seating areas, a food stage, and expanded paved walkways are added to enhance public utility.

Regarding the surrounding buildings, the northern section transitions from basic municipal structures—such as a town hall and simple retail shops—into a combined shopping complex and upgraded administrative offices. On the western side, older library and office buildings are demolished to clear space for a multi-story hotel and a new car park.
