IELTS Writing Task 1 question

The diagram below shows a town square and surrounding area in 2014 and the plans for development of the area to be completed by 2020. Summarise the information by selecting and reporting the main features, and make comparisons where relevant.

Student answer (Band 6.5)

The diagram illustrates a town area square and surrounding in 2014, and the development plan of this area to be completed by 2020.

Overall, only the town hall and fountain will remain the same, while some big building will give space to small shops. Other spaces will have the same square meter size, but the facilities will differ from 2014.

One of the main feature in this diagram is the administrative buildings in the east of the diagram, the new plan shows small shops placed there by 2020. Additionally, the library and fish restaurant will be replaced with smaller areas for bars and restaurants.

The total area of where were the history museum and fish market in 2014 will remain the same; however, by 2020 a local artists gallery and supermarket will be allocate there, respectively. The town hall and fountain remain the same, whereas, there will be a new children's playground, covered seating and plant beds around the fountain.
