Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0
The response covers the main features of the map effectively. You successfully identified the key transformations, such as the removal of the fish market and the addition of new facilities like the artist's gallery and playground. However, the overview is slightly underdeveloped; while you mention 'dramatic transformations,' it would be more precise to highlight the shift from a commercial/administrative focus to a more recreational/cultural one. Additionally, there are some inaccuracies in reporting; for instance, you mention a 'newspaper market' which is not evident in the source material. To improve, ensure all data points are strictly supported by the visual evidence provided.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0
The essay is logically organized into an introduction, an overview, and two body paragraphs focusing on the 'before' and 'after' states. The progression of ideas is generally clear. However, the use of cohesive devices is somewhat mechanical and occasionally repetitive. For example, the transition between sentences often relies on simple structures. The referencing is sometimes unclear, such as 'Beside this' or 'in the middle of the area,' which could be more precisely linked to specific map locations. Improving the variety of linking words and ensuring smoother transitions between sentences would elevate the coherence of the response.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.5
You demonstrate an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, using terms like 'adjacent,' 'proposed changes,' and 'administrative buildings.' However, there are several instances of word-choice errors and awkward phrasing, such as 'undevelopment area' (should be 'undeveloped') and 'covered seating point had constructed' (should be 'had been constructed'). Some spelling errors, such as 'puplis' (pupils) and 'resturant' (restaurant), also occur. To reach a higher band, focus on using more precise collocations and ensuring accurate spelling of key terms related to urban planning.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5
The response uses a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. While you attempt to use passive voice ('were replaced by,' 'had been constructed'), there are frequent grammatical errors, particularly with articles ('the' is often missing before nouns like 'fish market' or 'town hall') and verb tense consistency. For example, 'library was cleared and covered seating point had constructed' contains errors in both article usage and voice. Punctuation is also inconsistent, with several missing spaces after periods. Focusing on subject-verb agreement and the correct use of articles will significantly improve your accuracy.
