Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.5
The response covers the main features of the maps, identifying key changes such as the supermarket, the gallery, and the removal of administrative buildings. However, the description is somewhat mechanical and lacks a clear overview or summary of the most significant trends. While the prompt asks for a summary of the development, the response reads more like a list of individual changes rather than a cohesive report. Some details are slightly inaccurate, such as the claim that the bandstand will not be eliminated, whereas the visual data suggests it is removed. The response addresses the task, but the lack of analytical comparison limits the score.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.0
The essay uses basic cohesive devices such as 'To begins with', 'firstly', 'secondly', and 'moreover'. However, the use of these devices is often mechanical and sometimes grammatically incorrect (e.g., 'To begins with'). Paragraphing is present but the logical flow between sentences is disjointed. The referencing is occasionally unclear, making it difficult for the reader to follow the spatial progression of the development. While there is an attempt at an overall structure, the progression of ideas is not always smooth or logical.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.0
The vocabulary is limited and repetitive, relying on basic verbs like 'change', 'create', and 'exist'. There are several instances of incorrect word choice or awkward phrasing, such as 'will craft' (instead of 'will be constructed') and 'will be abolish' (instead of 'will be abolished'). The range of vocabulary is sufficient to convey the basic meaning, but it lacks the precision and flexibility required for higher bands. The errors in word form and collocation are noticeable throughout the text.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0
The response contains frequent grammatical errors that affect readability. There are persistent issues with subject-verb agreement (e.g., 'two maps depicts'), passive voice construction (e.g., 'will be abolish'), and article usage. Sentence structures are predominantly simple, and attempts at more complex sentences often result in errors, such as 'administrative buildings will not exist it will change to shops'. Punctuation is also inconsistent, with unnecessary spaces before commas. These errors are frequent and occasionally impede the clarity of the information provided.
