The diagram below shows a town square and surrounding area in 2014 and the plans for development of the area to be completed by 2020. Summarise the information by selecting and reporting the main features, and make comparisons where relevant.

Student answer (Band 6.5)

The diagram demostrates a town square and its surrounding area in 2014 and the developmental plans for the area to be completed by 2020.

The current state of the town square displays a simple design, with a fish market and a town hall north of the center opposit to a dish resturant and a single bar located south of the town square center. Furthermore, the town square has a single library as well as a history museum located west of the center. Finally, there is a single massive administrative building on the east side of the town square. Notabely, the center is empty, occupied by only a fountain and a bandstand.

Th 2020 plan offers noticeable developments, starting with multiple bars and resturants on the south side. However, it will replace the library. Moreover, multiple shops are planned to replace the admnistrative building on the east side allowing for a better shopping experience for residents and tourists alike. Additionally, the empty center is planned to have multiple covered seating areas, a children's playground, as well as some plant beds to improve the scenery of the town. Finally, local artists's gallery will be placed instead of the history museum.
