The diagram below shows a town square and surrounding area in 2014 and the plans for development of the area to be completed by 2020. Summarise the information by selecting and reporting the main features, and make comparisons where relevant.

The maps illustrate the layout of a town square and its surrounding area in 2014 and the proposed changes to the area by 2020.

Overall, the town square is planned to undergo significant redevelopment, with several existing buildings being replaced by commercial and recreational facilities. While the town hall and fountain will remain, the fish market, history museum, library, administrative buildings and bandstand will be removed or replaced.

In 2014, the square was surrounded by a number of public and commercial buildings. The fish market was located in the north-west, while the town hall occupied the north-east corner. A history museum and a library stood along the western side, and there was a fish restaurant in the south-west. A bar was situated in the south-east. In the centre of the square were a fountain and a bandstand, while administrative buildings occupied much of the eastern side.

By 2020, the fish market is planned to be replaced by a supermarket, while the former history museum will become a local artists' gallery. The town hall will remain in its original position, although the administrative buildings on the eastern side will be replaced by several shops. The fish restaurant and bar will also give way to a larger number of bars and restaurants along the southern side. Within the square, the bandstand will disappear and be replaced by plant beds, covered seating and a children's playground. The fountain, however, will remain in approximately the same central position.
