Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.0
The response attempts to describe the changes shown in the maps of the town square between 2014 and 2020. However, the overview is missing, and the summary is presented in a conversational, informal tone ('Now i expain the both differences', 'this is a detail information for this'). While the student identifies several key transformations—such as the replacement of the fish market with a supermarket and the history museum becoming an art gallery—some descriptions are inaccurate or confused, such as stating the library was removed when the library building in 2014 was actually the history museum. Furthermore, the selection of features lacks clear organisation and fails to synthesise the overarching trends effectively, aligning with a Band 5 performance.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.0
The essay lacks proper paragraphing and a clear overarching structure. The introduction is conversational and repetitive ('this diagram show a difference... In this diagram we saw a difference...'). Although cohesive devices like 'whereas', 'although', and 'however' are attempted, they are often misused or punctuated incorrectly, leading to a disjointed flow. For instance, sentences are strung together without proper spacing or capitalisation ('however,In 2014...', 'building which is futher connects...'). The progression of ideas is hindered by a lack of a clear layout description, making it difficult to follow the spatial relationships between the various structures over the two time periods, corresponding to a Band 4.5 or 5.0.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.0
The vocabulary used is quite basic and repetitive ('difference', 'building', 'opposite'). There are numerous spelling and word-choice errors throughout the text, such as 'surrouding', 'maket', 'oposite', 'futhermore', 'resturat', 'modren', 'super market', and 'Librery'. The student attempts some less common vocabulary related to the task ('administrative building', 'local artists' gallery', 'children playground'), but these are frequently misspelled or combined incorrectly. The lexical range is minimally adequate for the task, but the high frequency of errors prevents the score from rising above Band 5.0.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 4.5
The student relies mostly on simple and flawed complex sentence structures. There are persistent errors in subject-verb agreement and tense consistency (e.g., 'this diagram show', 'the area is too simple', 'where the have a street', 'where the fish market is replace'). Punctuation and capitalisation are poorly handled, with missing spaces after commas and periods, and numerous lowercase letters at the start of sentences. Complex structures are attempted but almost invariably contain errors that disrupt the flow and occasionally cause difficulty for the reader, placing this response firmly in the Band 4.0 to 4.5 range.
